Pirates' Liover Peguero: Scorching hot
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peguero went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and a pair of homers for High-A Greensboro on Sunday.

He's hit five home runs in the last three games, giving him a slash line of .423/.464/1.038 in the last week and 11 homers in 269 plate appearances. Peguero, who has also swiped 17 bases in 20 tries, continues to play shortstop next to second baseman Nick Gonzales. The tandem could play in Pittsburgh by 2023.

Pirates' Liover Peguero: Modest results in High-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peguero is hitting .255/.326/.430 with six home runs, 11 steals, 19 RBI and 32 runs for High-A Greensboro.

July has not been kind to the 20-year-old shortstop, who's gone just 5-for-34 with a single homer and 14 strikeouts in 40 plate appearances this month. Peguero has an intriguing combination of plus speed and roughly average pop, but his strikeout rate has spiked to 26.2 percent this season -- not ideal for a guy who's supposed to have a great feel for contact. Since he's a solid defender who should have a good chance to stick at shortstop, it's okay if Peguero's offensive game develops a little slower, but if his speed falls off as he ages, that'll limit his future fantasy value.

Pirates' Liover Peguero: Returns to lineup
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peguero (knee) is in the lineup for High-A Greensboro on Friday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Peguero has been dealing with a minor right knee contusion since May 9 that eventually forced him to spend time on the 7-day minor-league injured list. However, he had resumed baseball activities recently and should rejoin the starting nine for Greensboro going forward.

Pirates' Liover Peguero: Nearing return
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peguero (knee) is close to returning from the 7-day minor-league injured list, 93.7 The Fan Pittsburgh reports.

General manager Ben Cherington said Sunday that Peguero is progressing well in his recovery. "He's now fully into baseball activities," Cherington noted. "Not exactly sure when the date will be when he's back, but we're getting closer to it." Peguero is 8-for-22 with two homers and four steals in six games for High-A Greensboro.

Pirates' Liover Peguero: Placed on 7-day injured list
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peguero (knee) was placed on the 7-day minor-league injured list Wednesday, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports.

Peguero had been dealing with a minor right knee contusion that kept him sidelined since May 9, but Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk reiterated Wednesday that he doesn't think Peguero will miss extended time. Peguero had hit .364 with two home runs, four RBI and four stolen bases in six games with High-A Greensboro to begin the year.

Pirates' Liover Peguero: Nursing bruised knee
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said Wednesday that Peguero is nursing a minor right knee contusion, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. "I would highly anticipate seeing [Peguero] back in the [High-A Greensboro] lineup in the coming days," Tomczyk said.

The bruised knee has kept Peguero out of action since Sunday, but the young shortstop looks poised to get back on the field by the end of the week. The 20-year-old was off to a hot start to the season prior to picking up the injury, slashing .389/.450/.778 with two home runs and four stolen bases in his first five games.

Pirates' Liover Peguero: Makes first spring start Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peguero went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI against Baltimore on Thursday.

He got the start even though he's already been reassigned to minor-league camp. The 20-year-old shortstop has three hits in nine spring at-bats and is showing the promise that led Pittsburgh to trade for him in the Starling Marte deal.

The Pirates reassigned Peguero to minor-league camp Tuesday.

The top prospect didn't see any Grapefruit League action because he arrived late to camp due to visa issues. Peguero, who hit a combined .326/.382/.485 in 227 at-bats in 2019, will likely start 2021 in High-A.

Pirates' Liover Peguero: Arrives at camp
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peguero reported to Pirate City on Friday after missing the first week of spring training with visa issues, DK Pittsburgh Sports reports.

The non-roster invitee has never played above Low-A ball, but Peguero has the potential to move quickly through the system. A .970 OPS in Pioneer League play in 2019 hints at the shortstop's ceiling.

Pirates' Liover Peguero: Missing valuable time
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peguero who remains in the Dominican Republic with visa issues, is hopeful to be in camp by the weekend, DK Pittsburgh Sports reports.

Acquired from Arizona as part of the Starling Marte trade return, Peguero spent 2020 in Altoona at the Pirates' alternative training site. He hit five homers and compiled an .866 OPS in 227 at-bats split between the Pioneer League and Low-A ball in 2019. The 20-year-old is looking to improve upon his power numbers in 2021. "I honestly have a little more power with my hands a little bit higher," Peguero said. "I've been trying to control that, getting the bat 100 percent into it." As a quick riser within the system, he could reach the majors as soon as 2022.

Pirates' Liover Peguero: Arriving late to camp
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peguero wasn't present Monday for the Pirates' first workout for position players at spring training while he contends with visa issues, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports.

In addition to Peguero, fellow infielders and Dominican countrymen Erik Gonzalez and Wilmer Difo were absent from camp while they look to resolve their respective immigration statuses. Whenever he arrives at camp, the 20-year-old Peguero will get the opportunity to train with some of the Pirates' MLB players and higher-level minor-leaguers, but he's not a serious candidate to break camp with the big club. Look for the shortstop to open the 2021 campaign at the Low-A or High-A level.

Pirates' Liover Peguero: Attending big-league camp
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peguero was invited to Pittsburgh's big-league spring training Tuesday.

Peguero presumably won't be auditioning for a job on the Opening Day roster, as he's just 20 years old and is yet to advance to full-season ball. He's yet to play in a game for the Pirates' organization after coming over from Arizona in the Starling Marte trade in January of 2020 but did get to participate in the team's player pool last year.

Pirates' Liover Peguero: Will join player pool
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peguero was added to the Pirates' 60-man roster Wednesday, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports.

Peguero was traded from the Diamondbacks to the Pirates in January, and he'll now report to the team's alternate training site in Altoona for developmental purposes ahead of the regular season. The 19-year-old spent the past season at the rookie level, where he slashed .326/.382/.485 with five home runs and 38 RBI in 2019.

Pirates' Liover Peguero: Dealt to Pirates
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peguero was traded from the Diamondbacks to the Pirates on Monday as part of a package for outfielder Starling Marte, freelance baseball writer Robert Murray reports.

Peguero was effective at the rookie level last season, hitting .326/.382/.485 with five home runs and 11 stolen bases over 60 games. After spending the past two seasons at the rookie level, it wouldn't be surprising to see him advance in 2020 as he begins his run within the Pirates' organization.
