I wouldn't say, like the NBA's Vine account did, that Philadelphia 76ers big man Nerlens Noel "channeled Dr. J" on Saturday. He did, however, at least make me think about Julius Erving, though, when he threw down a nasty dunk on the baseline in the second quarter against the Brooklyn Nets.
Watch:
A few thoughts:
1) That was a great burst of speed to beat Brook Lopez.
2) There was no help defense at all.
3) It looked like Noel might have taken off a tiny bit too early, but his extension is awesome. Tough to do that with with your off hand, but he also routinely blocks shots with his left hand, so it's no big deal.
4) He almost hit his head on the backboard!
