  • Bucks' Brook Lopez: Undergoes surgery

Lopez underwent back surgery Thursday and is out indefinitely, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.

Sidelined since played 28 minutes in the Bucks' season-opening win over the Nets on Oct. 19, Lopez has been slow to progress from a back injury, with the Bucks providing scarce updates along the way. The team's recent signing of DeMarcus Cousins that Lopez wasn't due back anytime soon, and the veteran center's decision to address the back injury through surgery confirms as much. The Bucks likely won't have an update on when Lopez might play again until he's cleared to resume practicing, and there's a real possibility his 2021-22 campaign is over. With Lopez out of the picture for the foreseeable future, Bobby Portis is locked in as the Bucks' top center and remains a must-roster option in just about every format.

  • Bucks' Brook Lopez: 'No update' on timetable

Lopez (back) remains sidelined indefinitely due to a sore back, Eric Nehm of The Athletic reports.

Nehm notes that the media pressed coach Mike Budenholzer for an update on Lopez's status, and while Budenholzer denied that the big man had suffered any sort of setback, he declined to offer a timetable. Lopez has not played since Opening Night, so Wednesday's game against Charlotte will mark his 21st consecutive absence. The Bucks, and fantasy managers alike, remain hopeful that Lopez will be back in the mix sometime in the semi-near future, though the fact that Milwaukee recently signed veteran center DeMarcus Cousins may not be the most encouraging indication.

  • Bucks' Brook Lopez: Remains out Sunday

Lopez (back) is listed as out for Sunday's game against the Pacers.

Lopez teased a forthcoming return to the lineup in an interview nine days ago with Shams Charania of The Athletic, but the Bucks haven't provided any sort of update regarding where the veteran center stands in his recovery from his bout with back soreness that has sidelined him since Oct. 19. After Sunday's contest, the Bucks have two straight off days before returning to action Wednesday against the Hornets, so the team could shed more light on Lopez's condition prior to that game. Bobby Portis will continue to start at center for the duration of Lopez's absence.

  • Bucks' Brook Lopez: Progressing toward comeback

Lopez (back) told Shams Charania of The Athletic on Friday that he's resumed on-court work and has a target date in mind for returning to the Bucks lineup.

Details on Lopez's recovery from the back soreness that has kept him sidelined for all but the Oct. 19 season opener have been scarce, but the update the center provided Friday at least offers some reassurance that he hasn't been shut down from basketball activities entirely. That said, with Lopez unwilling to disclose the specific date he's planning on rejoining the lineup, fantasy managers should proceed as though he'll miss at least a few more contests on account of the injury. In Lopez's absence, Bobby Portis has stepped up for the Bucks with averages of 13.8 points and 7.1 rebounds across 27.3 minutes per game on the season.

  • Bucks' Brook Lopez: Remains without timetable

Lopez (back) is listed as out for Wednesday's game against the Lakers.

The Bucks are still refusing to offer any sort of timetable for the big man, who has not played since Opening Night. As far as we know, he's yet to return to practice or full-contact work, so chances are Lopez will miss at least a few more games as the Bucks finish out a three-game Week 5 against Oklahoma City (Friday) and Orlando (Saturday).

  • Bucks' Brook Lopez: Still out Sunday

Lopez (back) is out Sunday against the Hawks.

There is no indication that Lopez will be back anytime soon, but the Bucks continue to evaluate him day-to-day. While he's out, Bobby Portis should continue to be the team's nominal center.

  • Bucks' Brook Lopez: To remain out Friday

Lopez (back) will remain out for Friday's game against Boston.

Lopez hasn't played since Opening Night, and the Bucks have provided very little information as to when he might make his return. Reading between the lines, Milwaukee won't even wait to see how he feels Friday morning, so it's quite possible that Lopez isn't all that close to getting back on the floor. Milwaukee will remain without Khris Middleton (COVID-19 protocols) on Friday, as well.

  • Bucks' Brook Lopez: Ruled out Wednesday

Lopez (back) has officially been ruled out of Wednesday's game against the Knicks.

No surprise here, as there wasn't much of an expectation that the big man would be available, but the Bucks had not officially clarified his status on the second half of the back-to-back. Lopez, who has not played since Opening Night, remains without a firm timetable as he deals with what Milwaukee has only called a "sore back." Midway through Week 4 of the fantasy basketball season, it remains very much unclear when Lopez could be back in action.

  • Bucks' Brook Lopez: Out Friday

  • Bucks' Brook Lopez: Doesn't practice Thursday

Lopez (back) did not practice Thursday and is presumed to be out Friday against the Knicks, Eric Nehm of The Athletic reports.

Coach Mike Budenholzer did not have an update regarding the center's back, so it's safe to assume Lopez will sit out again Friday. If that's the case, it will mark an eighth straight absence.

  • Bucks' Brook Lopez: Out for seventh straight game

Lopez (back) has been ruled out for Tuesday's contest against the Pistons.

Lopez missed the Bucks' back-to-back this past weekend, and he will be sidelined for at least one more game as he battles a back issue. Milwaukee elected to start Thanasis Antetokounmpo at power forward and move Giannis Antetokounmpo to center, which is likely what they will do Tuesday. Bobby Portis is also expected to see increased minutes in a reserve role during Lopez's absence.

  • Bucks' Brook Lopez: Out Sunday, as expected

Lopez (back) is listed as out for Sunday's game against the Jazz.

Just as head coach Mike Budenholzer suggested would be the case heading into the weekend, Lopez will remain sidelined for both legs of the Bucks' back-to-back set. Bobby Portis, Thanasis Antetokounmpo and Jordan Nwora look to be the top candidates to fill minutes in the frontcourt along with reigning NBA Finals MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo.
