Warriors' Jimmy Butler: Undergoes successful surgery

Butler underwent successful surgery Monday to repair a torn right anterior cruciate ligament.
Butler suffered a season-ending ACL injury Jan. 19 against Miami, and he's since gone under the knife so that he can begin the recovery process. It's promising news that the procedure went as expected, though it's still too early to try to predict a timeline for Butler's return. The Warriors stated that an update on his progress will be disclosed early in the 2026-27 campaign.

Butler was diagnosed with a season-ending ACL tear after suffering a right knee injury in Monday's 135-112 win over the Heat, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
Butler recorded 17 points (6-11 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 5-5 FT), four assists, three rebounds and two steals in 21 minutes before exiting with 7:41 remaining in the third quarter, when his knee appeared to twist while he landed on the court after attempting to break up an entry pass. The veteran forward is slated to undergo an MRI on Tuesday, but assuming the torn ACL is confirmed, he'll miss the rest of the 2025-26 campaign, and quite likely, the start of the 2026-27 season as well. Butler's absence should free up extra minutes for most of the Warriors' complementary pieces, and Jonathan Kuminga could be a candidate to re-enter head coach Steve Kerr's rotation as Golden State seeks to replace Butler's scoring production. Butler is set to turn 37 in September and will be entering the final year of his contract with the Warriors next season.

Butler is scheduled for an MRI after leaving Monday's game against the Heat with a right knee injury, Anthony Slater of ESPN.com reports.
Butler exited Monday's matchup with what appeared to be a significant knee injury, but the team doesn't expect to know the severity of the issue until Tuesday. It would be fair to consider the star forward doubtful for the second half of Golden State's back-to-back against Toronto until further notice.

Butler went down with a right knee injury in the third quarter and appeared to be in a considerable amount of pain. The star forward was helped to the locker room and didn't put much, if any, weight on his right leg. He'll finish with 17 points (6-11 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 5-5 FT), four assists, three rebounds and two steals in 21 minutes. He should be considered doubtful for Tuesday's game against the Raptors until the Warriors offer an update on his status. If he's forced to miss additional time, Buddy Hield and Gary Payton would be candidates for increased minutes, especially if Gui Santos (ankle) remains out.
