Player Outlook
Shakir could be the No. 3 receiver for the Bills this season, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's headed for a lot of production. He's not worth drafting in the majority of leagues. Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis are locked into the top two receiver spots for Buffalo, but then Dawson Knox and especially Dalton Kincaid could see more targets ahead of Shakir even if he's third on the WR depth chart ahead of Trent Sherfield and Deonte Harty. Shakir might be able to carve out a role for himself in his second season, but he'll have to prove himself first to Fantasy managers. As a rookie in 2022, Shakir had 10 catches for 161 yards and a touchdown on 20 targets. If he starts out the season playing well, then just add Shakir off the waiver wire.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Clear-cut No. 3 wideout

Shakir caught three balls on five targets for 47 yards during Sunday's 37-34 overtime loss to the Eagles. Shakir comes with some risk on a week-to-week basis because the Bills offer so many other weapons in the passing game, but he's now had 45-plus yards in four of his last five games while never falling below 66 percent of the offensive snaps. As teams continue to shade attention toward studs Stefon Diggs and Dalton Kincaid, there will be open seams available to secondary options like Shakir and No. 2 wideout Gabe Davis, who posted a 6-105-1 line in Sunday's loss. Shakir is far ahead of any of the receivers underneath his No. 3 spot in the WR corps, as Deonte Harty carries a 13-113-1 line and Trent Sherfield comes in at 7-53-0. Shakir, meanwhile, sits at 25-410-2, proving useful for those in deeper leagues.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Stashes (WR Preview)

You can't start Shakir this week based on one monster play, but you can add him and hope that the big play will convince the coaching staff to increase his role in the passing game.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Week 12 Waiver Priority List

Shakir had three catches for 115 yards and a touchdown on four targets against the Jets in Week 11, and he now has at least 15.2 PPR points in two of his past four games. We'll see if he can sustain this level of play moving forward, and the Bills have a great matchup in Week 12 against the Eagles. You know Stefon Diggs and Dalton Kincaid remain the priority in the passing game, and Gabe Davis is in the mix as well. But Shakir is a good stash candidate to see what develops since his big game came in the first outing under new offensive coordinator Joe Brady. Shakir is worth adding for 1 percent of your FAB.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Career-best performance Sunday

Shakir caught three of four targets for 115 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 32-6 win over the Jets. Most of the yardage came on Shakir's 81-yard TD midway through the third quarter, and the second-year wideout produced his first career 100-yard game while scoring his third career NFL touchdown and first since Week 2. It was an encouraging initial performance under new offensive coordinator Joe Brady, but Shakir has still seen more than four targets in a game only once this season, and until that volume increases he'll be tough to rely on in shallower fantasy formats.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Week 12 Early Waiver Targets (Add/Drop)

The Bills have been desperate for another playmaker to step up alongside Stefon Diggs for a long time, and maybe Shakir can be that. He hit on the longest passing play of the season in the NFL Sunday, scoring from 81 yards out on a nice catch-and-run from Josh Allen. Shakir ended up with just three catches as the Bills were able to take their foot off the pedal in a game where the Jets never really challenged them, but he now has 9.7 PPR points in three of his past four games – with two seeing him top 15 PPR points. You'd like to see Shakir earning targets more consistently (has just 16 over the past four games), but the hope is that the production will lead to more targets, and he could show some upside more consistently down the stretch.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: One grab in loss

Shakir caught one of his two targets for 24 yards in Monday's 24-22 loss to the Broncos. Shakir played 76 percent of the Bills' offensive snaps Monday behind Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis, who each played 98 percent of snaps. Despite earning increased opportunities over the previous three weeks, the 23-year-old Shakir's two targets were his lowest total since Week 6. With that said, Buffalo's passing attack struggled to get going on a day when Josh Allen completed just 15 passes for 177 yards. Shakir will look to bounce back when the Bills host the Jets in Week 11.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Week 10 Waiver Priority List

Shakir is starting to be more involved in Buffalo's offense since Dawson Knox (wrist) got hurt, and Shakir is worth stashing in deeper leagues. In his past two games against Tampa Bay and Cincinnati, Shakir has 10 targets for 10 catches and 149 yards. He could emerge as a weekly No. 3 Fantasy receiver if he continues to get targets from Josh Allen, and I would add him for 1 percent of your FAB.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Solid complementary numbers in loss

Shakir brought in all four targets for 57 yards and returned one kickoff for 27 yards in the Bills' 24-18 loss to the Bengals on Sunday night. Shakir finished third on Buffalo in receiving yards on the night and tied James Cook for the same slotting in receptions and targets, making it a solid encore to his career-best 6-92 line in the Week 8 win over the Buccaneers. Shakir notably had a much bigger role in the air attack Sunday than No. 2 receiver Gabe Davis, who didn't gather in either of his two targets. Nevertheless, Shakir figures to remain in the No. 3 role, at least on the depth chart, in a Week 10 Monday night home matchup against the Broncos on Nov. 13.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Career-best showing Thursday

Shakir brought in all six targets for 92 yards and returned one kickoff for nine yards in the Bills' 24-18 win over the Buccaneers on Thursday night. The speedy second-year wideout was the surprise leader in receiving yards on the night for the Bills, and that total, along with his reception tally, were both career highs. Shakir's involvement in the air attack has shot up over the last two contests, as he's produced a 10-127 line on 10 targets in that span after heading into it with just four grabs for 40 yards on the season. Shakir has a good chance of remaining similarly involved in what should be a very competitive Week 9 road matchup against the Bengals on Sunday night, Nov. 5.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Best game of 2023 season

Shakir caught all four targets for 35 yards in Buffalo's 29-25 loss to the Patriots on Sunday. This was the first time all season Shakir has caught more than one ball in a game, so there's still a long way to go for him to offer fantasy value. He saw action on 36 percent of the offensive plays compared to 27 percent for receiver teammate Deonte Harty and 23 percent for Trent Sherfield. Perhaps one of those players will see more involvement in the passing game now that tight end Dawson Knox is set to miss time with a wrist injury, though most of that overflow should head toward rookie TE Dalton Kincaid.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Quiet in win

Shakir reeled in his lone target for 13 yards in Sunday's 14-9 win over the Giants. Shakir earned just one target for the fifth straight game and continued his underwhelming start to the 2023 campaign. Through six games, the 23-year-old has totaled just four receptions for 40 yards and a touchdown. Operating as the No. 3 receiver Sunday, Shakir played just 39 percent of the Bills' offensive snaps. With Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis commanding the most attention from Josh Allen, the second-year wideout is lacking the opportunities to be a consistent contributor. Shakir should continue to be difficult to trust for fantasy purposes when the Bills visit the Patriots in Week 7.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Dealing with head injury

Shakir is being evaluated for a head injury and is uncertain to return to Sunday's game against the Dolphins. Shakir went into halftime with a potential head injury and his status for the rest of the game is now in question. More information on Shakir will likely come when the third quarter starts.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Scores in romp over Raiders

Shakir caught his only target for 11 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 38-10 win over the Raiders. The Bills have a crowded offense, and barring injury, it's going to be tough for anyone else to leapfrog the big three of Stefon Diggs, James Cook and Gabe Davis. Shakir is instead battling for the leftovers with the 1-2 punch at tight end of Dawson Knox and Dalton Kincaid, as well as fellow depth receivers Trent Sherfield and Deonte Harty. Shakir played only 15 percent of the offensive snaps in Sunday's win, less than Sherfield (41 percent) or Harty (19 percent).

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Not slated to play Saturday

Shakir (ribs) is not in line to play in Saturday's preseason finale against the Bears, Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic reports. Shakir will now focus on recovering from his rib injury in time for Week 1 action. Once he's back in the mix, the 2022 fifth-rounder will continue to compete with Trent Sherfield and Deonte Harty for slotting behind Buffalo's top WR duo of Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Remains sidelined

Shakir (ribs) won't practice Thursday, Maddy Glab of the Bills' official site reports. With Shakir dealing with a rib issue, the 2022 fifth-rounder could be held out of Saturday's preseason finale against the Bears. Once Shakir is back in action, he'll continue to compete with Trent Sherfield and Deonte Harty for slotting behind the Bills' clear-cut top WR duo of Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Shining in spring practices

Shakir has been impressive at spring practices, making his case for a regular role in three-wide formations, Mark Gaughan of The Buffalo News reports. The 2022 fifth-round pick had only 10 receptions during the regular season last year, mostly operating as Buffalo's No. 4 receiver, before coming on strong in the playoffs with five catches for 91 yards over two games. Shakir enters his second season with a nice chance to claim the third receiver spot, albeit in an offense that rarely took WRs Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis off the field last year and may now use more multi-TE formations after adding first-round pick Dalton Kincaid. The Bills also added veteran WRs Deonte Harty and Trent Sherfield this spring to give Shakir some competition for playing time that previously went to the departed Isaiah McKenzie, who drew 63 targets last year while taking nearly three-fourths of his snaps in the slot.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Makes first-year strides

Shakir finished the regular season with 10 catches for 161 yards and a TD catch over 14 games. Shakir was pretty far down the pecking order in a potent offense, but he did well as a fifth-round rookie just to be part of a veteran team's rotation. He even appeared in both playoff games and had 40-plus receiving yards in each. While the Bills will have some changes this offseason, most of the receiving room should remain intact and there could be added competition if veterans Cole Beasley and Jamison Crowder return. Still, Shakir may have more athletic talent than anyone in the team's passing game outside of Stefon Diggs, so his career arc merits watching.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Will not practice Sunday

Shakir (illness) won't practice Sunday, Sal Capaccio of WGR Sports Radio 550 Buffalo reports. Shakir will be absent for the start of the Bills' work week as they prepare to play the Patriots on Thursday. The rookie receiver has seen his role increase as Jamison Crowder and Jake Kumerow continue to miss time due to ankle injuries. Shakir most recently played 45 percent of the team's offensive snaps Thanksgiving, but he failed to see any targets, and he hasn't recorded a catch since Week 10 against the Vikings, then Week 6 against the Chiefs before that. He'll continue working to grab a larger target share Thursday against the New England, if he can recover in time to play.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Stashes (WR Preview)

Isaiah McKenzie made several mistakes in the Bills last game and rookies often get more playing time coming off the bye. If Shakir can wrestle the WR3 role away from McKenzie he'll be a must-roster player.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Small showing in big win

Shakir caught one of two targets for 14 yards in Sunday's 24-20 win over the Chiefs. With Isaiah McKenzie returning to the lineup after a one-game absence due to a concussion, Shakir dropped down to fourth in the pecking order at receiver. He served as the Bills' No. 3 wideout Week 5 against the Steelers and recorded three catches for 75 yards and a touchdown, flashing some intriguing upside if a larger role should reopen later this season. Shakir has done well to go from being a healthy inactive Week 1 to becoming a tertiary member of the passing attack in short time, but he's little more than a dart throw in fantasy lineups while all of Stefon Diggs, Gabe Davis, McKenzie and tight end Dawson Knox are available. Shakir's already limited playing time could be further suppressed when Jake Kumerow eventually returns from an ankle injury.
