Carson joined Green Bay's practice squad earlier this month and will now move up to the 53-man roster to fill the spot vacated by Ty Montgomery, who was traded to the Ravens on Tuesday. Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams remain on hand as the Packers' clear top two running backs, so Carson should merely act as an insurance option if one of the others succumbs to an injury. The Texas A&M product has appeared in just two career regular-season contests, both of which came with the Bengals earlier in 2018.
The Packers signed Carson to their practice squad Tuesday, according to the Packers' official site.
Carson was waived/injured by the Bengals in late September with a hamstring injury, but he appears to be fully recovered. He'll provide depth in case one of Green Bay's running backs suffers an injury.
Carson (hamstring) was waived off injured reserve with an injury settlement Friday.
Carson was waived/injured earlier this month and then reverted to the Bengals' injured reserve after clearing waivers. The severity of the injury remains unclear, but coach Marvin Lewis previously indicated it wasn't season-ending. However, the team needed healthy running backs immediately due to Joe Mixon's (knee) absence. Carson is now free to pursue opportunities elsewhere.
The Bengals waived Carson on Wednesday with an injury designation.
Per Paul Dehner Jr. of The Cincinnati Enquirer, head coach Marvin Lewis revealed Carson exited Monday's practice with a hamstring injury, which likely would have forced him to miss the Week 3 matchup with the Panthers. Since Joe Mixon (knee) has already been ruled out for that contest, the Bengals couldn't afford to carry two injured backs on the active roster, so Carson was let go to make room for Thomas Rawls. Lewis indicated Carson's injury isn't of the season-ending variety, so once the 25-year-old proves his health, he could re-sign with Cincinnati or perhaps earn a depth role with another team.
Carson missed the entire 2017 season after injuring his left ankle in training camp, per Richard Skinner of Local 12/WKRC-TV. His full participation in training camp this year suggests the running back is back to full strength, though, and he now seems ready to compete with Brian Hill for the No. 4 slot on the depth chart. If the Bengals only keep one more running back behind Joe Mixon, Geovani Bernard and Mark Walton, the job between Hill and Carson will likely go to whoever looks better on special teams this preseason. A number of undrafted free agents are also in the mix.
