  • David Schlemko: Bought out by Flyers

Schlemko was placed on unconditional waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract Sunday.

Schlemko was traded to the Flyers via Montreal in early February this season, and only played 18 games in the NHL last season. The veteran blueliner was set to make $2.1 million each of the next two seasons, so this news isn't surprising. He could get a shot with another team, but it's likely that Schlemko's time at the NHL level could be over.

  • Flyers' David Schlemko: Destined for Philadelphia

The Canadiens traded Schlemko and Byron Froese to the Flyers on Saturday in exchange for Dale Weise and Christian Folin, Frank Seravalli of TSN.ca reports.

Schlemko landed in the minors in early January after failing to do much for the Habs -- just two assists and a minus-1 rating -- over 18 appearances. The veteran blueliner will now head back south of the border, likely as an AHL piece for the time being.

  • Canadiens' David Schlemko: Hits waiver wire

Schlemko (upper body) was designated for waivers Monday.

By placing Schlemko on waivers, the team must have cleared his upper-body injury. The defenseman figures to head down to AHL Laval if he clears waivers, which seems likely given his $2.1 million cap hit. In 18 games this season, the Edmonton native logged a mere two helpers, four PIM and 29 shots.

  • Canadiens' David Schlemko: Remains out of lineup

Schlemko (upper body) won't slot back into the lineup versus Minnesota on Monday, John Lu of TSN.ca reports.

While Schlemko has begun to participate in practice, the blueliner is still on injured reserve and won't be activated for Monday's matchup. It will be the seventh straight game on the sidelines for the Edmonton native, having previous missed the first 16 games of the year due to injury. Once healthy, Schlemko figures to bump either Jordie Benn or Brett Kulak from the lineup.

  • Canadiens' David Schlemko: Practices Friday

Schlemko (upper body) took part in practice Friday but is not ready to return to the lineup, Stu Cowan of the Montreal Gazette reports.

Schlemko has missed the last five games due to the injury and has not yet been cleared, though he did take some contact Friday.

  • Canadiens' David Schlemko: Needs more time

Schlemko (undisclosed) remains at least a week away from a return, Jeff Miller of NHL.com reports.

The 31-year-old has two points in 18 games this season. He is still a week away (at least) from returning to game action and remains on injured reserve. Even when Schlemko makes his inevitable return, the veteran blueliner, apart from blocking shots, offers little fantasy value.

  • Canadiens' David Schlemko: Lands on injured reserve

Schlemko (upper body) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday. The move is retroactive to Dec. 20.

The Canadiens' blueliner was scratched from Montreal's last game, with head coach Claude Julien calling Schlemko less than "100 percent". The shift to IR was made retroactive to Dec. 20, meaning Schlemko is eligible to play Friday against the Panthers. That said, Montreal called up Karl Alzner from AHL Laval on Wednesday, an indication that Schlemko will be on the shelf for a bit.

  • Canadiens' David Schlemko: Scratched Saturday

Coach Claude Julien said Schlemko was not "100 percent," so he was replaced by Brett Kulak in the lineup Saturday against Vegas, Stu Cowan of the Montreal Gazette reports.

Julien didn't divulge the exact nature of Schlemko's injury, but that's the reason he took a seat Saturday. Schlemko's biggest contribution to the Habs has been in the area of blocked shots. He's third on the team with 45, but with just 18 games played, he ranks first in blocks per game.

  • Canadiens' David Schlemko: Activated Monday

Schlemko was back in the lineup Monday against Boston after being a healthy scratch for two games. He finished with five blocked shots and three hits over 16:05 of ice time in a 4-0 loss.

In a pattern that plays out all too often, a player returns to the active lineup after being a healthy scratch and is active with the body. In this case, Schlemko sacrificed his body, tying his season high in both hits and blocks. He hasn't produced much offensively, but he's been an active shot blocker this season. Schlemko ranks third on the team with 43 blocks despite playing just 16 games.

  • Canadiens' David Schlemko: Scratched Thursday

Schlemko was a healthy scratch Thursday against Carolina.

Schlemko was one of two roster tweaks coach Claude Julien made after Tuesday's 7-1 loss to the Wild. Mike Reilly, a Minnesota native who was scratched in his home state Tuesday, re-entered the lineup on the second pair with Jeff Petry.

  • Canadiens' David Schlemko: Makes season debut Saturday

Schlemko made his season debut in Saturday's 5-4 win over Vegas, posting a plus-2 rating, one shot and three blocks in exactly 20 minutes of ice time.

Despite earlier reports that Schlemko's knee injury would delay his debut until Tuesday, he ended up coming back Saturday. His ability to handle a heavy workload and play effectively while doing so suggests Schlemko can be deployed as usual moving forward. Keep in mind he only mustered five points in 37 games last season, though.

  • Canadiens' David Schlemko: Removed from IR

Schlemko (knee) has been activated from injured reserve, per the NHL's official media site.

According to the projected lineup from Sean Farrell of NHL.com, Schlemko is still expected to miss Saturday's home game against the Golden Knights, but now that he's been activated from injured reserve, we see no reason why the veteran defenseman wouldn't travel to Edmonton to potentially draw into Tuesday's contest for his season debut.

  • Canadiens' David Schlemko: Nearing return to practice

Schlemko (knee) is expected to return to practice sometime next week, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

Schlemko will likely need to log several full practices before being cleared for game action, but he's clearly trending in the right direction. Another update on the 31-year-old blueliner's status should surface ahead of next Saturday's matchup with Vegas.

  • Canadiens' David Schlemko: Skates Monday

Schlemko (knee) skated Monday along with a member of the Canadiens' training staff, Stu Cowan of the Montreal Gazette reports.

Schlemko skated for the first time since suffering a knee injury late in the preseason. He's still about two weeks away from returning.

  • Canadiens' David Schlemko: Lands on IR

The Canadiens placed Schlemko on injured reserve Tuesday.

Schlemko is expected to be on the shelf until mid-November due to a knee injury, so a move to IR was essentially a foregone conclusion for the veteran blueliner. Mike Reilly will likely be a regular in Montreal's lineup until Schlemko's cleared to return.

  • Canadiens' David Schlemko: Out six weeks due to injury

Schlemko is expected to miss six weeks after suffering a knee injury against Toronto on Wednesday.

Injuries limited Schlemko to just 37 games last season, and it appears the snakebitten defenseman will be sidelined for an extended amount of time. Based on the timeline announced by the club, the veteran figures to be out until mid-November. Schlemko's absence, combined with that of Shea Weber (knee), will likely open the door for Simon Despres to secure a permanent deal from the club.

  • Canadiens' David Schlemko: Misses practice

    Schlemko (undisclosed) missed Friday's practice.

Schlemko logged 18:33 of ice time in Wednesday's 5-3 home loss to the Maple Leafs. Considering that exceeded his TOI average from last season (18:04), it wasn't abundantly clear that he had sustained an injury in the latest contest. At any rate, the Habs are expected to have an update on him at some point Friday.

  • Canadiens' David Schlemko: Injuries cut short 2017-18 year

Schlemko played in just 37 games during 2017-18 as an upper-body and hand injury limited his playing time. He posted five points (one goal, four assists) during the campaign.

When Schlemko was on the ice, he averaged 18:04 of ice time and 1:02 on the power play, though he just had two points on the man advantage. Despite the 31-year-old not supplying very much offense, he still made his mark defensively, as he blocked 72 shots and had a plus-3 rating on a lackluster Montreal team.

  • Canadiens' David Schlemko: Ready to roll Saturday

As expected, Schlemko (upper body) will return to the lineup for Saturday's game against the Penguins, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

Schlemko's return to health will bolster the Canadiens' depth at defense, but it won't impact any fantasy lineups, as he's only notched one goal and four points in 34 contests this campaign.

  • Canadiens' David Schlemko: Expects to return Saturday

Schlemko (upper body) expects to rejoin the lineup for Saturday's game against the Penguins, Arpon Basu of The Athletic Montreal reports.

Schlemko has managed to lace up the skates for just 34 games this season for the Habs due to various injuries, totaling four goals and a plus-four rating over that span. Even when he's on the ice, the veteran blueliner doesn't exude fantasy potential, but a return to the power play could keep him on the radar as a daily fantasy roster-filler.
