David Schlemko: Bought out by Flyers
Schlemko was placed on unconditional waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract Sunday.
Schlemko was traded to the Flyers via Montreal in early February this season, and only played 18 games in the NHL last season. The veteran blueliner was set to make $2.1 million each of the next two seasons, so this news isn't surprising. He could get a shot with another team, but it's likely that Schlemko's time at the NHL level could be over.

Flyers' David Schlemko: Destined for Philadelphia
The Canadiens traded Schlemko and Byron Froese to the Flyers on Saturday in exchange for Dale Weise and Christian Folin, Frank Seravalli of TSN.ca reports.
Schlemko landed in the minors in early January after failing to do much for the Habs -- just two assists and a minus-1 rating -- over 18 appearances. The veteran blueliner will now head back south of the border, likely as an AHL piece for the time being.

Canadiens' David Schlemko: Hits waiver wire
Schlemko (upper body) was designated for waivers Monday.
By placing Schlemko on waivers, the team must have cleared his upper-body injury. The defenseman figures to head down to AHL Laval if he clears waivers, which seems likely given his $2.1 million cap hit. In 18 games this season, the Edmonton native logged a mere two helpers, four PIM and 29 shots.

Schlemko (upper body) won't slot back into the lineup versus Minnesota on Monday, John Lu of TSN.ca reports.
While Schlemko has begun to participate in practice, the blueliner is still on injured reserve and won't be activated for Monday's matchup. It will be the seventh straight game on the sidelines for the Edmonton native, having previous missed the first 16 games of the year due to injury. Once healthy, Schlemko figures to bump either Jordie Benn or Brett Kulak from the lineup.

Schlemko (upper body) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday. The move is retroactive to Dec. 20.
The Canadiens' blueliner was scratched from Montreal's last game, with head coach Claude Julien calling Schlemko less than "100 percent". The shift to IR was made retroactive to Dec. 20, meaning Schlemko is eligible to play Friday against the Panthers. That said, Montreal called up Karl Alzner from AHL Laval on Wednesday, an indication that Schlemko will be on the shelf for a bit.

Coach Claude Julien said Schlemko was not "100 percent," so he was replaced by Brett Kulak in the lineup Saturday against Vegas, Stu Cowan of the Montreal Gazette reports.
Julien didn't divulge the exact nature of Schlemko's injury, but that's the reason he took a seat Saturday. Schlemko's biggest contribution to the Habs has been in the area of blocked shots. He's third on the team with 45, but with just 18 games played, he ranks first in blocks per game.

Canadiens' David Schlemko: Activated Monday
Schlemko was back in the lineup Monday against Boston after being a healthy scratch for two games. He finished with five blocked shots and three hits over 16:05 of ice time in a 4-0 loss.
In a pattern that plays out all too often, a player returns to the active lineup after being a healthy scratch and is active with the body. In this case, Schlemko sacrificed his body, tying his season high in both hits and blocks. He hasn't produced much offensively, but he's been an active shot blocker this season. Schlemko ranks third on the team with 43 blocks despite playing just 16 games.

Schlemko made his season debut in Saturday's 5-4 win over Vegas, posting a plus-2 rating, one shot and three blocks in exactly 20 minutes of ice time.
Despite earlier reports that Schlemko's knee injury would delay his debut until Tuesday, he ended up coming back Saturday. His ability to handle a heavy workload and play effectively while doing so suggests Schlemko can be deployed as usual moving forward. Keep in mind he only mustered five points in 37 games last season, though.

According to the projected lineup from Sean Farrell of NHL.com, Schlemko is still expected to miss Saturday's home game against the Golden Knights, but now that he's been activated from injured reserve, we see no reason why the veteran defenseman wouldn't travel to Edmonton to potentially draw into Tuesday's contest for his season debut.
