Pat Dean: Let go by Twins
Dean was released by the Twins on Wednesday, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports.
Dean returned from Korea on a minor-league contract this offseason but couldn't convince the Twins to keep him around. As a 29-year-old with a 6.28 ERA in his lone big-league season back in 2016, he's unlikely to make a significant impact at the top level this year.

Twins' Pat Dean: Returns to affiliated ball
Dean signed a minor-league deal with the Twins on Monday, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports.
The 29-year-old lefty had spent seven years in the Twins' organizations, reaching the big leagues in 2016. He failed to impress at the highest level, finishing with a 6.28 ERA in 67.1 innings. He spent last season with the Kia Tigers of the KBO in South Korea, throwing 129.1 innings with a 6.26 ERA. He's unlikely to be anything more than organizational depth this season.

Pat Dean: Inks deal with KIA Tigers
Dean has signed a contract with the KIA Tigers of the Korean Baseball Organization, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Dean finally received his first shot in the majors last season, but struggled mightily in his only stint at the level. The 27-year-old southpaw allowed 13 home runs over 67.1 innings and posted a 6.28 ERA over 67.1 innings in the majors. He'll look for a better run overseas, but could find his way back to American baseball if he can find some success.

Twins' Pat Dean: Outrighted to Triple-A on Monday
Dean was outrighted to Triple-A Rochester on Monday, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Dean got his first taste of the big leagues this season, but he never was able to find a lot of success in the upper levels of the minor leagues. The left-hander will likely serve as organizational depth going forward.

Twins' Pat Dean: Impresses in no-decision
Dean threw five innings in Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader, allowing only one run on three hits and a walk while striking out five. He didn't factor into the decision.
The southpaw kept a dangerous Detroit lineup at bay with his soft-tossing stuff before the Minnesota bullpen caved late in the game. While his 6.71 ERA over 59 innings probably should be better, given his 5.42 Fielding Independent Pitching, he's still not an exciting arm.

Twins' Pat Dean: Starting Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader
Dean will receive the start in the first game of Thursday's split doubleheader against the Tigers.
Dean was bumped out of the rotation earlier in September and has most recently pitched out of the bullpen. It's quite possible he will be on a limited pitch count in his temporary return to the rotation Thursday.

Twins' Pat Dean: Bumped from rotation
Dean will be dropped from the rotation Monday against the Royals in favor of Jose Berrios, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Like Dean, Berrios has been hit hard during his starts with the Twins this season, but as a 22-year-old with plenty of prospect sheen, he'll get more opportunities than the 27-year-old Dean to prove himself. After getting blasted for six runs in back-to-back starts, Dean will likely work in long relief for the Twins until another chance to rejoin the rotation presents itself.

Twins' Pat Dean: Hit hard in Friday spot start
Dean (1-4) gave up six earned runs on eight hits and a walk over three innings in Friday's 15-8 loss to the Blue Jays. He also recorded a strikeout.
Dean got through the first unscathed, but it was downhill from there. Justin Smoak touched him up for a 407-foot three-run homer in the second, and Josh Donaldson followed with a 417-foot two-run shot later in the frame. Smoak then helped put an early end to Dean's night with an RBI single in the third. The 27-year-old southpaw now has a 9.00 ERA over the 10 innings since his Aug. 12 call-up from Triple-A Rochester.

Twins' Pat Dean: Making spot start Friday
Dean will start Friday's game against the Blue Jays.
Hector Santiago -- who was initially slated to start Friday -- is dealing with a bruised thumb, so Dean will slot into the rotation for a spot start. The lefty has had a rocky go of things in six starts at the major league level this season, posting a 5.81 ERA and 1.52 WHIP while allowing five home runs in 31 innings.

Twins' Pat Dean: Recalled from Triple-A Rochester
Dean was recalled from Triple-A Rochester on Friday, Brandon Warne of Cold Omaha Minnesota reports.
Dean has played 16 games at Triple-A Rochester this season, all of which were starts. He's struggled in said games, as he owns a 5.56 ERA and 1.51 WHIP at the Triple-A level in 2016. Minnesota's current plan is to use the rookie as a reliever during his second stint with the big club, where he's posted a 5.54 ERA and 1.62 WHIP.

Twins' Pat Dean: Receives demotion after Friday loss
Dean was optioned to Triple-A Rochester following Friday's loss to the Yankees, Phil Miller of the Star Tribune reports.
Dean allowed seven earned runs in just 2.1 innings of work before getting yanked off the mound, pushing his ERA to 5.54 on the season over 39 total innings. Tommy Milone received the call-up in place of Dean and will also be the foremost candidate to take over Dean's spot in the rotation.

Twins' Pat Dean: Pounded for seven runs Friday
Dean (1-3) allowed seven runs on eight hits and three walks over 2.1 innings to take the loss Friday against the Yankees.
Dean allowed more baserunners (11) than he recorded outs (seven), which explains just how bad he was in this contest. After ending the month of May with a 3.43 ERA, he's allowed 16 runs in 18 June innings to raise his ERA to 5.54.He'll make his next start Thursday against the Phillies.

Twins' Pat Dean: Tosses quality start in no-decision Sunday
Dean (1-2) was stuck with a no-decision in Sunday's extra-inning win over the Red Sox, allowing just one run on three hits and four walks over 6.1 innings while striking out three.
He's now got an adequate 4.17 ERA through his first seven big league games and three QS in five starts, but Dean's 28:12 K:BB in 36.2 innings isn't what you'd call dominant. He has value in deeper AL-only formats, but he's not an arm you'd want to rely on in mixed leagues. He'll next take the mound at home Friday against the Yankees.

Twins' Pat Dean: Allows four runs in no-decision against Marlins
Dean allowed four runs on seven hits and a walk with two strikeouts in a no-decision Tuesday against Miami.
Dean struggled to miss bats, as he induced just four swinging strikes in 90 pitches, and he paid for it as the Marlins dropped in hit after hit against him. While his 7.4 K/9 is solid, Dean has induced swinging strikes on just 6.3 percent of his pitches. Without more whiffs, expect more starts like tonight, in which teams get a hit parade going against Dean and he struggles to stifle rallies before they lead to runs.

Twins' Pat Dean: Yields four runs on nine hits versus Athletics
Dean (1-2) allowed four runs on nine hits, struck out three and walked two over five innings in a loss to the Athletics on Wednesday.
The left-hander has made five appearances, including three starts, and has allowed a homer in four of them. That streak continued, as he tossed up a bomb to right fielder Jake Smolinski in the fourth. Dean threw 49 of his 81 pitches for strikes, but he only induced five swing-and-misses. That's rather disappointing after striking out eight in his last outing. His next start will be Tuesday against the Marlins.

Twins' Pat Dean: Shuts down Mariners in road win
Dean allowed just two runs with eight strikeouts and zero walks in seven strong innings during Friday's win over the Mariners.
The left-hander limited baserunners exceptionally well in his third start, but Seattle was able to make the most of their hits, as three went for extra bases. Dean has now improved his strikeout rate, ERA and innings pitched in each of his last three starts, culminating in a pair of quality starts against two tough lineups in the Mariners and the Blue Jays. Furthermore, he has managed a 3.43 ERA despite facing the Tigers and the Orioles in his other two appearances, and he appears to be in a real groove during his first foray in the Major Leagues. He will have the opportunity to keep it rolling Wednesday at the Athletics in a more favorable matchup.

Twins' Pat Dean: Turns in quality performance in first major league start
Dean didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 5-3 victory over the Blue Jays, despite turning in a quality start that consisted of surrendering three hits, two earned runs and three walks over six innings. He also struck out five.
The 26-year-old was solid in his first major league start, neutralizing a potent Toronto lineup that was without Josh Donaldson after the first inning due to an ejection. He'd been stretched out in his most recent appearance out of the pen, having pitched 5.1 innings of long relief versus the Tigers on May 16. Given Saturday's effort, Dean may be looking at additional opportunities to show what he can do as a starter moving forward.

Twins' Pat Dean: To join rotation, start Saturday
Dean will get the start for the Twins on Saturday against Toronto, LaVelle Neal of the Star Tribune reports.
Dean came on to put out the fire left by Jose Berrios in Monday's loss to Detroit and performed ably, holding the Tigers to just two runs over 5.1 innings of work. His strong appearance out of the bullpen has earned Dean a spot in the rotation for now, as he'll make his first major league start Saturday against the Blue Jays. Dean has pitched to contact through his first two outings this season, which could be problematic against a Toronto lineup that features several heavy-hitting right-handers.
