Jared Hughes: Released by Pirates

Hughes was placed on release waivers by the Pirates on Wednesday, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports.

Hughes has been a fairly consistent member of the Pirates' bullpen over the past few seasons, posting an ERA well below 3.00 in two of the last three. However, a disastrous spring showing forced the Pirates to cut ties with him, although his major-league experience and past success could make him an appealing option for a good number of big league clubs. That being said, he doesn't strike out enough batters to warrant much fantasy interest even if he does land a major-league deal again.
