The Red Sox released Hernandez on Sunday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
Hernandez's release opens up spots in the Red Sox's 60-man roster pool for minor-league players Hudson Potts and Jeisson Rosario, who were acquired from the Padres on Sunday in the deal that sent Mitch Moreland to San Diego. After being cast off the 40-man roster in January, Hernandez had yet to debut for the Red Sox in 2020.
