Marcos Mateo: Granted release from Padres

Mateo was granted his release from the Padres on Thursday as he intends to pitch in the Japanese Central League in 2016.

Mateo made 51 total appearances in 2015 with the Padres and their Triple-A affiliate in El Paso, most notably working a 4.00 ERA with 33 strikeouts in 27.0 innings in the big leagues. With his release, the padres were able to add Ryan Buchter to the 40-man roster.
