The Orioles selected Washington's contract from Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday.
Baltimore made room on the active roster for Washington, a 26-year-old first baseman, by transferring outfielder Anthony Santander (forearm) to the 60-day disabled list and placing Chris Davis (oblique) on the 10-day DL. Washington was batting a respectable .291 with Norfolk, but it's not expected that he'll see an everyday role for the big club, even with Davis likely out for multiple weeks. Instead, Mark Trumbo and Trey Mancini are expected to see most of the reps at first base while Davis is sidelined.
