The Pirates designated Mitchell for assignment Friday.
The 24-year-old will cede his spot on the 40-man roster to Miguel Andujar, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Indianapolis in a corresponding move. Mitchell appeared in two games for the Pirates in 2023 but has otherwise spent the season at Indianapolis, where he slashed .264/.338/.426 with nine home runs and 53 RBI across 300 plate appearances. He had been sidelined for much of the past two months with an undisclosed injury, but he appears to be healthy again after Indianapolis activated him from its 7-day injured list Tuesday.
