Pirates' Ka'ai Tom: Claimed by Pirates

Tom was claimed off waivers by the Pirates on Wednesday.

Tom was designated for assignment by the Athletics on Monday, but the Rule 5 pick will now join Pittsburgh's 26-man active roster going forward. Tom went 1-for-16 with a run, one RBI and six strikeouts to begin the season. The Pirates have gotten limited production out of their center fielders this season, so Tom could end up pushing Dustin Fowler for the top job at the position.
