Rays' David McKay: Designated for assignment

McKay was designated for assignment by the Rays on Saturday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The move clears space on the 40-man roster for Christian Bethancourt, who was acquired in a trade with the Athletics. McKay owns a 6.46 ERA in 30.2 career major-league innings, so he's unlikely to draw much interest on waivers.
