Red Sox's Ryan Sherriff: Designated for assignment

Sherriff was designated for assignment Friday, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

The Red Sox had to make room on their 40-man roster for Yu Chang's activation from the 60-day injured list. Sherriff has pitched pretty well during his big-league stints but has been unable to stick over the long haul.
