Borucki elected free agency after being outrighted to Triple-A Iowa on Friday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.
Rather than sticking around in the Cubs organization with the club's top minor-league affiliate, the lefty reliever will hit the open market with the hope of finding a landing spot that can present him with a clearer path back to the majors. Prior to being outrighted off the 40-man roster, Borucki logged a 12.00 ERA and 2.11 WHIP over his nine innings at Iowa.
