Indians relief pitcher Frank Herrmann threw off a mound Monday with a hitter at the plate for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery during spring training last year, MLB.com reports.

Herrmann will be fighting to make the team's opening-day bullpen. He made 15 appearances for the Indians in 2012, posting a 2.33 ERA and 14:4 K:BB ratio in 19 1/3 innings.
