Padres pitcher Josh Johnson threw two perfect innings in his spring debut Monday, striking out two in his team's 7-2 win over the Giants.

"I thought his delivery looked good, he repeated his delivery and it really looked as though his mechanics are in order," manager Bud Black told MLB.com. "Just the way he's been throwing, I expected some good things."

Johnson is looking to rebound after going 2-8 with a 6.20 ERA in 16 starts last season.

"Everything is starting to feel comfortable again," Johnson said. "I'm not fighting myself, not fighting my body. I'm just trying to get out there and be able to repeat my delivery. It's a lot easier. I have command of my fastball and know where it's going."

Johnson underwent surgery after the season to have bone chips removed from his pitching elbow. Despite the poor numbers overall, he posted the best strikeout rate of his career last season.
