Pirates activate Francisco Liriano from DL
The Pirates are welcoming back an important contributor, as Francisco Liriano's rehab from a strained oblique is done.
The Pirates on Sunday activated lefty Francisco Liriano (strained left oblique) from the disabled list. Liriano recently completed a minor-league rehab assignment but hasn't made a start for the Pirates in more than a month.
Liriano, 30, has a 4.60 ERA after 14 starts this season, but the Pirates will be hoping for improved results now that he's fully healthy. Last season, Liriano finished ninth in the NL Cy Young balloting on the strength of a 118 ERA+ in 161 innings of work.
Liriano will take the mound against the Reds on Sunday opposite Cy Young contender Johnny Cueto.
