Scott Boras is arguably the most powerful agent in baseball, and he is fed up with the recent performance-enhancing drug issues that seem to emanate from South Florida. As a result, he is planning to open a private, multimillion dollar fitness center for his clients in the area according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports. The center is expected to open by next year.

Boras said the idea is to “bring about a certain level of assurance that the players we represent are certainly given the best information and best professional training. We intend to certainly work with the team trainers and the clubs in sharing and advancing information about what the players are doing. We feel we can best avoid all of the outside resources that are attacking these young men and providing them with false information and less than licensed professional medical assistance.”

Boras said he has no knowledge of any of his clients using PEDs, but he did begin educating players about the impact of banned substances back in the 1990s. Manny Ramirez (two failed drug tests) and Alex Rodriguez (admitted using PEDs) were among his clientele at one point.

The new Boras Sports Training Institute in South Florida will be the second of its kind -- Boras opened a training facility in Southern California in 2003. The new facility will be run by Miami resident and former big leaguer Alex Ochoa, who served as the Red Sox's first base coach in 2012. It will be free of charge for Boras clients and will be staffed by trainers and sports psychologists. Boras said planning for the South Florida facility began in September.
