During Wednesday night's win over the Rays (NY 3, TB 2), Yankees right-hander Brandon McCarthy threw an Immaculate Inning. That is three strikeouts on nine total pitches.
McCarthy struck out Wil Myers, Nick Franklin and Matt Joyce in the seventh inning. Here's the final strikeout:
According to Lee Sinins, McCarthy had the fifth Immaculate Inning in Yankees' history. Al Downing, Ron Guidry, A.J. Burnett, and Ivan Nova have also done it. SABR says there have been fewer than 100 recorded Immaculate Innings in baseball history.
