VIDEO: Cubs introduce new ace Jon Lester
Jon Lester, fresh off signing a $155 million contract with the Cubs, was introduced at a Chicago press conference on Monday.
Days after putting ink on a six-year, $155 million contract that also includes an option for the 2021 season, new Cubs ace Jon Lester was introduced at a Chicago press conference on Monday.
Lester will wear No. 34 for the Cubs. His previous uniform number, 31, belonged first to Fergie Jenkins and then to Greg Maddux, so it's understandably not available. Here are some other highlights ...
"I wouldn't be here if I didn't think they were going to win in 2015," Lester said of his decision to sign with the Cubs. "That means the division, the World Series, everything."
As our Mike Axisa recently wrote, signing a frontline starter like Lester indeed moves the Cubs toward contention in the season to come.
As for the pressures of of helming a franchise that hasn't won it all since 1908, Lester doesn't sound too concerned.
"I played in Boston for eight years," he said. "I'm pretty much prepared for anything."
