  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Carried to fourth win

Corbin (4-5) picked up the win Friday despite coughing up six runs on seven hits and four walks over 6.1 innings in a wild 12-10 victory over the Royals. He struck out six. The veteran lefty was down 3-1 after five innings, and after the Nationals erupted for eight runs in the top of the sixth, Corbin did his best to give it all back in the bottom of the seventh. He exited after 108 pitches (66 strikes) -- the first time this season he's seen a triple-digit pitch count -- and he'll carry a 4.88 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 40:14 K:BB through 62.2 innings into his next start, likely to come on the road next week against the Dodgers.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Solid effort in third win

Corbin (3-5) picked up the win in Saturday's 5-2 victory over the Tigers, giving up two runs on six hits over six innings. He struck out three without walking a batter. It looked like the veteran lefty might be headed for disaster after Spencer Torkelson took him deep for a two-run shot in the first inning, but Corbin settled in and delivered his fourth straight quality start and sixth in his last seven outings. Over that seven-start stretch, the 33-year-old has a 3.40 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 25:4 K:BB through 42.1 innings, and while he no longer offers the strikeout upside he did at his peak, he's finding a way to be effective. Corbin will look to keep rolling in his next outing, which is likely to come next weekend in Kansas City.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Earns win after quality start

Corbin (2-5) earned the win Monday, allowing two runs on eight hits and one walk across six innings during a 10-3 win over the Mets. He struck out one. Corbin allowed three or fewer earned runs and completed at least five innings for a sixth straight start. During that stretch, the left-hander has posted a 22:4 K:BB across 36.1 innings. Corbin has been far from perfect, but his recent string of solid starts is a step in the right direction after he surrendered 14 runs over his first 14 innings this season. Overall, he sports a 4.65 ERA and 1.43 WHIP over nine outings (50.1 innings) and will look to make it four straight quality starts next time out, which is tentatively scheduled for a three-game weekend set versus the Tigers.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Decent in loss

Corbin (1-5) allowed three runs (two earned) on eight hits and struck out three without walking a batter over six innings, but he took the loss Tuesday versus the Giants. Corbin gave up a two-run double to Mitch Haniger in the first inning and a solo home run to Casey Schmitt in the fourth. Over his last five outings, Corbin has managed four quality starts, and this was his second no-walk effort in a row. The southpaw had a 4.87 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 30:9 K:BB through 44.1 innings over eight starts this season. He's projected for a home start versus the Mets next week.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Fires seven strong frames

Corbin didn't factor in the decision in Thursday's win against the Cubs after he gave up two runs on three hits over seven innings. He struck out six and did not walk a batter. The left-hander cruised through the first seven innings with just one hit allowed, but he was pulled in the eighth after giving up a pair of singles, both of which came around to score. Chicago tied the game 3-3 later in the frame, robbing Corbin of his second win of the year. Still, it was the 33-year-old's best start of the season, and he generated 12 swinging strikes on 80 pitches. His 5.17 ERA for the year remains unsightly, though he's pitched well in his past four outings with a 2.96 ERA and 18:3 K:BB across 24.1 frames.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Falls to 1-4

Corbin (1-4) took the loss against Pittsburgh in the first contest of a twin bill Saturday, allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out two batters over 5.1 innings. Corbin gave up a run in each of the second and fourth innings and entered the sixth engaged in a 2-2 tie. He was pulled with one out and a runner on second base, and a Miguel Andujar homer later in the frame attached another run to his ledger to put him in line for the loss. While Corbin still holds an uninspiring 5.47 ERA on the campaign, he's giving Washington decent length, going at least five innings in each of his past five starts. The veteran southpaw has been pitching fairly well of late, allowing a tolerable eight earned runs across 17.1 frames over his past three outings.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: No run support in loss

Corbin (1-3) took the loss Sunday against the Twins after allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out six. Corbin was handed an early lead after the Nationals got on the board in the opening frame, but the team managed just three hits, leaving him with little room for error. The 33-year-old escaped with the bases loaded in the second but gave the lead up in the fourth after surrendering solo home runs to Jorge Polanco and Michael Taylor. The Twins tacked on an insurance run in the fifth before Corbin finished up his outing with a clean sixth. The southpaw has now pitched back-to-back quality starts, and he also racked up a season-high six strikeouts Sunday. He sits at a 5.88 ERA, 1.69 WHIP and a 19:8 K:BB over 26 innings, and tentatively lines up to face the Pirates at home next weekend.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Logs quality start

Corbin did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits and zero walks over six innings against the Guardians. He struck out four. All of the damage against Corbin came in the fourth inning. He allowed three doubles in the frame, and the Guardians took advantage of two National errors to score four runs, though just two were charged to Corbin. He was spared another loss, however, when Washington rallied to take a 7-6 lead in the eighth inning. The 33-year-old Corbin is 1-2 through 20 innings this season with a 6.30 ERA and a 1.75 WHIP.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Mixed results in first win

Corbin (1-2) earned the win during Monday's 6-4 win over the Angels, allowing four runs on seven hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out three. Corbin was shaky in the first and ultimately got tagged for two runs on a single by Luis Rengifo. The left-hander also surrendered two runs in the third off a solo shot from Hunter Renfroe and an RBI double by Gio Urshela. However, Corbin was able to settle down after that and secured a win thanks to five unanswered runs from Washington's offense. Through three starts (14 innings), Corbin holds an ugly 7.71 ERA and has just nine strikeouts compared to six walks.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Takes loss in opener

Corbin (0-1) took the loss after allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits over three-plus innings during the season opener against Atlanta on Thursday. He had three strikeouts and three walks. Corbin predictably struggled against Atlanta's deep and dangerous offensive attack and often pitched from behind as he threw a first-pitch strike to just seven of the 20 batters he faced. It's an ominous start to 2023 after going 6-19 with a 6.31 ERA last season. Up next is another tough test at home against the Rays.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Named Opening Day starter

Corbin will start for the Nationals on Opening Day versus Atlanta. Corbin is coming off a season which saw him hold a 6.31 ERA over 31 starts, but his bloated salary gets him the nod in an otherwise inexperienced Washington rotation. For what it's worth, the veteran lefty has pitched well this spring with a 3.86 ERA and 13:1 K:BB over 14 frames.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Six solid frames Monday

Corbin gave up one run on five hits over six innings in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Mets. He struck out five without walking a batter. The veteran lefty was facing a lineup that included the likes of Starling Marte and Francisco Lindor, as well as top prospects Francisco Alvarez and Mark Vientos, and after giving up a run in the first inning, Corbin shut down New York the rest of the way. His control has been nearly impeccable this spring, and Corbin has a 13:1 K:BB through 14 Grapefruit League innings over four starts; however, the 33-year-old hasn't posted an ERA below 4.66 or a WHIP below 1.47 since 2019 and remains a very risky fantasy option in 2023.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Solid start to spring

Corbin gave up two runs on three hits and a walk over 2.1 innings in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros. He struck out three. Facing a Houston lineup that included the likes of Jose Altuve, Kyle Tucker and Alex Bregman, Corbin sailed through two scoreless frames before running into trouble in the third. The veteran left-hander is coming off the worst season of his big-league career, and his 2021 wasn't a whole lot better, but his sizeable contract ensures he'll still be part of the Nationals' Opening Day rotation. Corbin is offering a glimmer of hope he'll be able to rebound in 2023 with a 5:1 K:BB through his first four spring innings, but he has far too much to prove to be worth a roster spot in most fantasy formats.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Crushed for seven runs

Corbin (6-19) allowed seven runs on 10 hits and three walks over 4.2 innings Sunday, striking out three and taking a loss against the Phillies. Corbin made his first start since Sept. 20 and turned in another poor outing. He gave up just one run through three innings before coughing up six in the fourth and fifth frames combined. The 33-year-old southpaw finishes the 2022 campaign with a brutal 6.31 ERA and 128:49 K:BB through 31 starts. Corbin briefly looked like he turned a corner late in the year; he registered a 2.84 ERA across 31.2 frames in six starts before Sunday's implosion.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Re-entering rotation Sunday

Corbin (back) is scheduled to start Sunday's game against the Phillies, Jessica Camerato of MLB.com reports. Corbin had his last turn through the rotation skipped after he exited his start against Atlanta on Sept. 20 with back spasms, but he'll rejoin the rotation Sunday for his final start of 2022. The veteran left-hander has a 3.20 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 11:1 K:BB across 19.2 innings through three starts in September, and he'll attempt to finish the campaign with another strong outing.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Plays catch Friday

Corbin (back) played catch from 90 feet Friday and is beginning to feel better, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. Corbin was forced to leave Tuesday's game against Atlanta early due to back spasms. If he continues to feel better once he throws again Saturday, he could rejoin the rotation and avoid spending time on the injured list.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Battling back spasms

Corbin exited Tuesday's start in Atlanta due to back spasms, Paul Mancano of MASNSports.com reports. Corbin threw just 12 pitches and recorded only two outs before the back spasms forced him to leave Tuesday's contest. The 33-year-old will continue to be evaluated over the next few days, leaving his availability for the next turn through the rotation up in the air.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Departs with injury

Corbin was removed from Tuesday's game against Atlanta with an apparent injury, Kevin McAlpin of 680 The Fan Atlanta reports. Corbin recorded a strikeout, allowed a single and induced popout before he exited Tuesday's contest with the unspecified injury. The veteran left-hander should be considered day-to-day until the team updates his status.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Quality start in no-decision

Corbin did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing one run on four hits over six innings with four strikeouts against the Orioles. The only damage on the night came after a few singles and a couple of groundouts that scored a run in the top of the second inning. Otherwise, Corbin held Baltimore in check to position himself to win before the bullpen blew the game for the Nationals. The southpaw has thrown six or more innings in five of his last six starts, four of which have been quality starts. In that stretch, his ERA has decreased from 7.02 to 6.11.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Falls to Phillies

Corbin (6-18) took the loss Friday, coughing up five runs on 12 hits over 6.2 innings as the Nationals were downed 5-3 by the Phillies. He struck out two without walking a batter. The veteran southpaw was hit hard, serving up home runs to Rhys Hoskins and J.T. Realmuto while tying his season high by allowing a dozen hits. Corbin saw his brief two-game winning streak snapped, and he's closing in on becoming just the second pitcher since 1980 to lose at least 20 games in a season, a dubious achievement Mike Maroth reached with the Tigers in 2003.
