  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Lit up in defeat

Corbin (5-13) took the loss Sunday, allowing seven runs on 10 hits over six innings against the Pirates. He struck out five. Corbin entered the contest having allowed three runs total while accumulating wins in each of his last three starts but allowed four runs in the first and seven total over his six-inning performance. The seven runs allowed represented the second time since mid-June that he's allowed more than four runs in a start. Corbin's next opportunity to eat innings for the Nationals is tentatively slated to take place at home against the Marlins.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Wins third straight

Corbin (5-12) earned the win Tuesday over the Marlins, allowing two runs on seven hits and three walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out eight. It's the third straight win for Corbin, who's allowed just three runs over 17.2 innings while racking up 22 strikeouts in that span -- the left-hander had struggled to an 8.51 ERA in his previous five outings. Overall, Corbin's lowered his ERA to 5.41 on the year with a 1.52 WHIP and 121:51 K:BB across 153 innings. He'll look to keep the momentum going in his next start, currently scheduled for this weekend in Pittsburgh.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Stymies Yankees in victory

Corbin (4-12) earned the win Tuesday against the Yankees, pitching six scoreless innings while allowing two hits and two walks. He struck out six. With this 104-pitch effort, the 35-year-old has posted consecutive wins for the first time since Aug. 2023. Corbin generated a convincing 13 whiffs en route to his six punchouts, as the Yankees lineup was flummoxed by his slider and sinker, which caused five swings and misses apiece. Despite another rough year from the veteran southpaw, he was serviceable in August while going 2-1 with a 3.76 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 24:9 K:BB in 26.1 innings across five starts. Corbin is tentatively scheduled to make his first start of September against the Marlins in Miami next week.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Strikes out eight in win

Corbin (3-12) earned the win Thursday, allowing one run on four hits and one walk over six innings against the Rockies. He struck out eight. Corbin tossed 95 pitches in holding the Rockies to just one run, compliments of a sixth-inning solo blast by Brenton Doyle. It marks just the second time this season Corbin has allowed one run while completing at least six innings. The outing lowered Corbin's ERA to 5.73 with a 1.54 WHIP and 107 strikeouts over 141.1 innings spanning 26 starts. He's next slated to take the hill in a home matchup with the Yankees early next week.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: No-decision against Philly

Corbin came away with a no-decision in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Phillies, giving up two runs on seven hits and two walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out two. The veteran left-hander remains stuck on 99 career wins, but Corbin wasn't efficient enough to have gotten No. 100 on Friday even if he had gotten some support from the Washington offense. The Phillies put runners in scoring position in four of the five frames Corbin worked but only broke through in the third, and he left the mound after 96 pitches (58 strikes) with the Nats down 2-0. Corbin has gone five straight starts without a win, stumbling to an 8.51 ERA, 1.97 WHIP and 20:9 K:BB through 24.1 innings over that stretch. He'll look for that elusive 100th victory in his next outing, which lines up to come at home next week against the Rockies.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Shaky in no-decision

Corbin came away with a no-decision in Saturday's 5-4 extra-inning win over the Angels, giving up four runs on eight hits and three walks over four-plus innings. He struck out two. The 35-year-old lefty remains arguably the worst regular starter in MLB. Corbin has a rough 7.25 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 32:10 K:BB through seven starts and 36 innings since the beginning of July, and his 5.98 ERA on the season is the highest in the majors among qualified pitchers. Should Cade Cavalli (elbow) make it back before the end of the season, it'll likely be Corbin who gets bumped from the rotation to make room for him, but until then the Nationals don't seem to have any better options. Corbin lines up to make his next trip to the mound on the road next weekend in Philadelphia.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Suffers 12th loss

Corbin (2-12) took the loss Monday, allowing four runs on seven hits and one walk over six innings against the Giants. He struck out six. Things went awry for the veteran southpaw out the gate, as he allowed a leadoff 416-foot homer to Tyler Fitzgerald. Corbin allowed another homer of the three-run variety to Matt Chapman in the third inning, cementing his 12th loss, tying him for the most in the league. It's been another rough season for the 35-year-old, as he now sports a 5.88 ERA and 1.52 WHIP across 127 innings on the year. Corbin is currently scheduled to face the Angels at home in his next start this weekend.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: On losing side of no-hitter

Corbin (2-10) took the loss against San Diego on Thursday, allowing three runs on four hits and three walks while striking out seven batters over seven innings. The veteran lefty completed seven frames for just the second time this season and tied a campaign-high with seven punchouts, but he had the misfortune of being the opposing starter in Dylan Cease's first career no-hitter. In spite of that, Corbin continued a solid beginning to the second half of the season, as he's yielded four runs and posted a 13:3 K:BB over 13 innings across two post-break starts. His next start is tentatively lined up to come next week in Arizona.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Grabs second win

Corbin (2-9) earned the win Friday over the Reds, allowing one run on three hits while striking out six over six innings. Corbin was sharp Friday, holding Cincinnati to a lone third-inning run en route to his first win since May 10. The 35-year-old southpaw had struggled in four starts prior to the All-Star break, allowing 14 runs over 23 innings. Overall, Corbin sports a 5.35 ERA with a 1.49 WHIP and 79:36 K:BB through 20 starts (111 innings) this season. He's currently lined up for a home matchup with San Diego next week in his next outing.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Falls to 1-9

Corbin (1-9) took the loss against the Mets on Wednesday, allowing four runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out five batters over five-plus innings. Corbin gave up a solo homer in the first inning but then cruised for the next four frames and had a 2-1 lead entering the sixth. However, the veteran lefty gave up three straight hits -- including an RBI double -- to begin that inning, and the two runners he left on base when he departed later came around to score. That clinched another loss for Corbin, who is now 0-6 since his most recent -- and still only -- win of the campaign, which occurred May 10 in Boston. Corbin's 5.57 ERA on the season is far from appealing, but he's at least given Washington some length, ranking second on the team with 105.0 IP and averaging 5.2 frames per start.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Allows three runs in no-decision

Corbin did not factor into the decision in Friday's 7-6 loss to the Cardinals, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks with three strikeouts over five innings. Corbin opened with three scoreless innings but allowed three runs over the fourth and fifth frames before departing with a 5-3 lead. The southpaw generated only five swinging strikes on 91 pitches but has now completed at least five innings in 12 consecutive outings. Despite the solid volume this season, the 34-year-old owns a 5.49 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 68:35 K:BB over 100 innings. He lines up for a road matchup with the Mets next week.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Allows two homers

Corbin (1-8) suffered the loss Sunday, allowing four runs on eight hits and one walk over six innings against the Rays. He struck out five. Corbin got bitten by the home-run bug in the second inning, giving up two blasts that allowed three runs to cross the plate. Otherwise, a fourth-inning sac fly was the only other damage to his line. It was the first time in four games Corbin had allowed a long ball, and he's had 10 games this season in which he's not allowed a ball to leave the yard. However, over the other seven instances, including Sunday, he's allowed multiple homers on five occasions. Corbin currently carries a season ERA of 5.49, but even including this start, his ERA has been a solid 3.47 over his last four starts spanning 23.1 innings. Corbin's next outing is slated to take place at home next weekend when the Cardinals visit the nation's capital to take on the Nationals.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: No-decision versus Padres

Corbin allowed three runs on five hits and struck out five without walking a batter over seven innings to take a no-decision versus the Padres on Monday. Corbin threw 97 pitches (59 strikes) in his longest outing of the season. This was his fourth quality start, though he hasn't earned a win in any of those appearances and has gone winless over eight consecutive starts. For the season, Corbin has a 5.46 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 60:32 K:BB through 89 innings across 16 starts. The southpaw would be on regular rest to start this weekend versus the Rays, but with Josiah Gray (elbow) potentially returning after a rehab appearance Tuesday, it's unclear if Corbin will remain in the Nationals' rotation moving forward.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Fans seven in no-decision

Corbin came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Diamondbacks, allowing one run on three hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out seven. The veteran lefty established a season high in strikeouts despite tossing only 53 of 90 pitches for strikes, but Corbin left the mound with the Nats in a 1-0 hole before they took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth inning. He's given up three earned runs or less in four of his last five starts, and while his 4.23 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 23:11 K:BB through 27.2 innings over that stretch aren't particularly impressive, they represent a big improvement on his season-long numbers. Corbin will look for his first win since May 10 in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week in San Diego.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Allows one run in no-decision

Corbin did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing one run on four hits and two walks over 5.1 innings against the Tigers. He struck out four. Corbin was initially slated to have his spot in the rotation skipped, but with MacKenzie Gore being pushed back a day due to a fingernail issue, Corbin took the ball and pitched well, allowing just the one run while matching a season low with six baserunners allowed. It was the third time this season in 14 starts that Corbin has allowed one or fewer runs. Corbin remains a member of the rotation for now, but with the impending return of Josiah Gray (elbow), who has a rehab start scheduled for Friday, and the eventual return of Trevor Williams (right flexor strain), Corbin's time in the rotation could be drawing to an end given his 5.84 ERA for the year.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Starting Thursday's game

Corbin will make his next start Thursday in Detroit, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. The Nationals had planned to skip Corbin's turn in the rotation, but with MacKenzie Gore's (fingernail) getting pushed back a day in the pitching schedule, Corbin will step in to take the ball Thursday. The left-hander has had another disastrous season, posting a 6.15 ERA and 44:27 K:BB over 71.2 innings covering 13 starts.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Mauled by Mets

Corbin (1-7) took the loss Wednesday, surrendering six runs on seven hits -- including three home runs -- and a walk over 5.1 innings as the Nationals were routed 9-1 by the Mets. He struck out three. Luis Torrens took him deep twice while Francisco Lindor also belted a homer off Corbin, and two of the other hits off him also went for extra bases. The 34-year-old lefty offers nothing but length at this stage of his career -- Corbin's lasted at least five innings in seven straight starts, but he has a 5.63 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 22:14 K:BB through 40 frames to show for it. He lines up to make his next trip to the mound early next week in Detroit.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Handed loss despite quality start

Corbin (1-6) yielded two runs on six hits and three walks over six innings Friday, striking out five and taking a loss against Cleveland. Corbin coughed up a pair of runs in the third inning but otherwise worked around danger to deliver a quality start. It was his second straight quality start and third in 12 appearances this season. The veteran southpaw forced 13 swinging strikes, marking a new season best and his first time hitting double digits in that category since April 28. Corbin will carry a 5.83 ERA into his next outing, which is lined up for next week at home against the Mets.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Notches quality start

Corbin pitched six innings Sunday against Seattle, yielding three earned runs on four hits and two walks. He struck out four and did not factor into the decision. Corbin managed to log his second quality start of the season Sunday, rebounding from his previous outing where he allowed eight earned runs. Even in tonight's quality start, Corbin allowed two home runs and has now allowed five home runs in his last two starts. Corbin (1-5) has been wildly inconsistent all season, posting a 6.12 ERA and 1.69 WHIP across 60.1 innings. His next start is tentatively scheduled for next weekend in Cleveland.

  • Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Start moved up

Corbin is listed as the Nationals' probable pitcher for Sunday's game against the Mariners, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports. Corbin's next start will come five days after he allowed eight runs against the Twins on Tuesday, pushing Mitchell Parker to Monday in order to give the young southpaw an extra day of rest. Corbin has been erratic this season, yielding five or more runs four times but surrendering fewer than three runs on three occasions. He owns a 6.29 ERA overall.
