Twins' Mick Abel: Fans career-high 10 in dominant win
Abel (1-2) earned the win Tuesday against the Red Sox, allowing no runs on four hits while striking out 10 over seven innings.
Abel turned in the best start of his young career, tossing seven scoreless innings while setting a new career high in strikeouts with 10. The right-hander was overpowering throughout, including a stretch during which he struck out five consecutive batters. After a rocky start to the season, Abel has looked dominant over his last two outings, combining for 16 strikeouts and no runs allowed across 13 innings. The 24-year-old has now lowered his season ERA to 3.98 with a 1.57 WHIP and 23:10 K:BB across 20.1 innings and will look to stay hot in his next scheduled start against a Mets lineup that has gotten off to a sluggish start offensively.

Twins' Mick Abel: Six shutout innings in no-decision
Abel didn't factor into the decision Thursday against the Tigers, allowing four hits and three walks with six strikeouts across six shutout innings.
Abel left with a 1-0 lead, but the Tigers were able to push a run across the plate in the seventh inning to spoil Abel's potential first win of the season. It was easily Abel's best game to date after he hemorrhaged nine runs on 14 hits and seven walks across his first 7.1 innings of the 2026 campaign. Abel will carry a 6.08 ERA and 13:10 K:BB into his next start at home against the Red Sox.

Twins' Mick Abel: Tagged with loss Saturday
Abel (0-2) was charged with the loss Saturday against the Rays after allowing four runs on six hits and three walks while fanning three across four innings.
Abel needed 84 pitches (53 strikes) to record just 12 outs, and by the time he left the game, the Twins were already down 4-1 and wouldn't get any closer. The 24-year-old righty, who made his season debut in relief in a loss to the Orioles on March 29, has delivered a disappointing start to the season. Through 7.1 innings and two appearances, Abel has already allowed nine earned runs on 14 hits with seven walks and seven strikeouts. If he stays in the rotation, his next start would be lined up for next week against the Tigers.

Twins' Mick Abel: Makes season debut in relief
Abel (0-1) was the pitcher of record in Sunday's 8-6 loss to the Orioles after allowing five earned runs on eight hits and four walks while striking out four batters over 3.1 innings of relief.
Manager Derek Shelton told Matthew Leach of MLB.com on March 20 that Abel would be part of the Twins' season-opening rotation, but the 24-year-old will have to wait a little bit to make his first start. Due to a pair of early off days, the Twins are able to temporarily get by with a four-man rotation, so Abel was available in the bullpen for the season-opening series with the Orioles and ended up making his 2026 debut Sunday with starter Bailey Ober getting chased after four innings. Abel lacked control and was hit hard in the relief outing, which will likely give fantasy managers some pause about including him in lineups once his turn in the rotation comes up. The right-hander tentatively lines up to make his first start during next weekend's home series versus the Rays.

Twins' Mick Abel: Unofficially wins rotation spot
Abel is poised to begin the season in Minnesota's starting rotation after Zebby Matthews was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul on Friday, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.
The Twins have yet to announce their official rotation plans, but Abel has apparently won the battle for the No. 5 spot. The 24-year-old was dominant during spring training with a 1.35 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and 17:1 K:BB across 13.1 innings. Abel struggled to a 6.23 ERA in 10 appearances between the Phillies and Twins in his first taste of the majors last season, but he should find more success if he's able to keep limiting free passes, as he's had a walk rate of at least nine percent at every professional level.

Twins' Mick Abel: Ends scoreless streak
Abel gave up two earned runs over 3.1 innings with four strikeouts and one walk Friday, ending a 10-inning scoreless streak. He has a 1.35 ERA with a 17:1 K:BB in 13.1 innings this spring.
Abel is likely competing with Zebby Matthews for the fifth starter role. This was his first speed bump in otherwise stellar spring. A high walk rate (6.5 BB/9 in the majors last season) has been a problem, so his great control this spring is encouraging. He's making a strong case to begin the season in the rotation, but he'll likely be the odd man out since he has minor-league options left. Still the competition between him and Matthews will likely come down to the final week of spring training.
