Carmelo Anthony passes Larry Bird on all-time scoring list
The Knicks star drops 30 points vs. the Jazz Wednesday as a remarkable resurgence season continues.
New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony passed Celtics legend Larry Bird on the NBA's all-time scoring list Wednesday, moving into 36th place behind Gary Payton. Melo did it in 870 games versus 897 for Bird. Much of that can be ascribed to the way the 3-point was treated sparingly during Bird's time.
It's another milestone for Anthony who continues to have a terrific season with New York. He's moving the ball more willingly, attacking more consistently, feeding Kristaps Porzingis and finding ways to be a plus-player more possession by possession. He's embraced this Knicks team and it's brought them to a .500 record, already far surpassing their win total for last season.
Anthony scored 30 points Wednesday to pass Bird, along with tallying seven rebounds and nine assists in an overtime win over Utah. It was Anthony's third 30-plus-points performance of the season.
