Report: Heat decline option on Michael Beasley
Miami lets long-term project go but will inevitably re-sign him when they run out of options, like a scab they can't stop picking at.
The Miami Heat have decided not to pick up the second-year option on forward Michael Beasley, making him an unrestricted free agent according to multiple outlets. The move comes in advance of Miami inevitably re-signing Beasley in six to eighth months like they always do.
Miami inked Beasley when they were shorthanded last March after several injuries. They made the move after letting Beasley go the previous summer following his year as a bench-warmer with the No. 1 seed Heat during the LeBron era in 2014. The song is always the same. Miami signs Beasley, who they originally drafted back in 2008 with the No. 2 pick, he wears them out with his non-stop lack of maturity, but plays just well enough with his physical gifts to maintain a spot on the team, then they ditch him as soon as they can. Then they re-sign him when they get desperate for depth and the whole thing starts over again.
At this point there's a higher likelihood that Beasley will play for Miami at some point in the future than Dwyane Wade will return. OK, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but seriously, they cannot stop signing that guy. Moving Beasley off the cap gives them more room to try and shoehorn in Goran Dragic and Wade, should they agree to a deal with the franchise icion.
Beasley's option was for $1.27 million next season.
