No more "Thunder Alley" watch parties in Oklahoma City. The team has decided to shut down the giant outdoor viewing around Chesapeake Energy Arena after a shooting happened in Bricktown nearby following Game 5.
"Thunder fans will continue to have a pregame opportunity to gather in Love’s Thunder Alley outside Chesapeake Energy Arena prior to the Thunder Western Conference Finals home games, but the event will conclude when the game begins," the team said in a statement. "The Thunder will no longer show the game broadcast on the video board outside the arena."
An estimated 10,000 gathered around the arena to watch the Thunder eliminate the Lakers on Monday.
As the thousands made their way out of the area, a shooting happened in which eight people were injured. Oklahoma City police say the shooting and the game were entirely unrelated. The team and city have decided to go with a safety first approach though and shut it down before something else happens.
