  • Kings' Domantas Sabonis: Signs contract extension Saturday

Sabonis (thumb) re-negotiated his contract with the Kings on Saturday, agreeing to an extension worth $217 million over five years, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. Sabonis' 2023-2024 season contract will be renegotiated and four new seasons will be added onto the deal, meaning the star big man will be under contract until the end of the 2028-29 campaign. The deal also has no team or player options, Jason Anderson of The Sacramento Bee reports. Sabonis is coming off another All-Star season and has established himself as a pivotal cog for Sacramento, averaging 19.1 points, 12.3 rebounds and 7.3 assists per game during the regular season.

  • Kings' Domantas Sabonis: Posts 22 points in defeat

Sabonis chipped in 22 points (10-16 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-6 FT), eight rebounds, seven assists and two blocks across 37 minutes during Sunday's 120-100 loss to the Warriors in Game 7 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals. Sabonis scored effectively but his rebounding numbers were dwarfed by Kevon Looney's 21 boards. His fantasy total was aided by seven assists and two blocked shots, but the Kings' interior was solidly outmatched by Golden State's front line. Despite the disappointing final result, Sabonis ended the season as one of the league's most productive rebounders, trailing only Anthony Davis with 12.3 rebounds per game.

Sabonis was immense Wednesday, recording a double-double for the third time in the series and reaching the 20-point mark just for the second time. The star big man has struggled to show efficiency against the Warriors' frontcourt, but he's still averaging 17.2 points with 11.6 rebounds per game in the series. Game 6 will be played Friday at Chase Center.

  • Kings' Domantas Sabonis: Status uncertain for Game 3

Sabonis is questionable for Game 3 against the Warriors on Thursday due to a sternum contusion, NBA writer Marc Stein reports. Sabonis injured his sternum in Game 2 when he grabbed onto Draymond Green's ankle and had Green stomp on his chest. Sabonis has played 35 and 40 minutes, respectively, in the first two contests of the series and would be a massive loss to Sacramento if he's ruled out. Alex Len and Trey Lyles would be candidates to see extended minutes if the star big man is unable to suit up Thursday.

  • Kings' Domantas Sabonis: X-rays negative after Game 2 win

Sabonis underwent X-rays on his sternum following Monday's 114-106 win over the Warriors in Game 2 of the first-round series, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. The X-rays returned negative, but Sabonis will undergo additional testing Tuesday as a precaution. Sabonis had his ribs and lungs examined after the Warriors' Draymond Green stomped on him in the fourth quarter of Monday's game, when Sabonis appeared to either intentionally or inadvertently grab at Green's ankle upon falling to the floor while contesting a rebound. Green was assessed a flagrant foul and was ejected from the game, while Sabonis stayed in the contest and finished with 24 points (8-12 FG, 8-12 FT), nine rebounds and four assists in 40 minutes. While Sabonis looks to have avoided an injury and should be viewed as probable for Thursday's Game 3 matchup at this point, his upcoming tests will provide more clarity regarding his status.

Sabonis struggled to put the ball in the hole against the undersized Warriors, who finally got some defensive help from Andrew Wiggins. Sabonis managed to overcome his shooting woes to contribute in the victory, and he has recorded seven double-doubles over his past 10 games. He figures to have a considerable advantage over the Warriors in the paint during this series.
