NFL Week 11: Grading the rookies
Here are how the rookie quarterbacks fared in Week 11.

Robert Griffin III, Redskins QB: Although he was playing the disaster that is the Philadelphia Eagles, Griffin had a standout Sunday. He was incredibly accurate (he went 14 of 15 for 200 yards and four touchdowns), and as the GIF below showcases, he was tough to tackle when he ran with the ball (12 carries for 84 yards). Finally, after recent weeks of decent, but not fantastic play, Griffin performed like the No. 2 overall pick should play. In effect, he had one of the best games of his career. He got his team back on track, and he got himself back on track as well. Grade: A+![]()
Brandon Weeden, Browns QB: He was oh-so-close to beating the Cowboys in what would have been the biggest win of his career, but instead, Weeden and the Browns fell just short in Dallas. Weeden finished 20 of 35 for 210 yards and two touchdowns, and for much of the game, he got plenty of help from his offensive line, which gave him time to throw. But he also made some late-game mistakes, fumbling the ball with 5:45 to play in regulation and down by four and overthrowing his receiver on a fade route on fourth-and-goal a few minutes later. Of course, Weeden also threw a touchdown about 40 seconds after that. Grade: B
Andrew Luck, Colts QB: There was one heck of a headline the Boston Herald ran Sunday morning: it read “Luck vs. Skill," and it included a picture of Luck next to the word “Luck” and a picture of Tom Brady next to the word “Skill.” The paper wasn’t kidding with its innuendo. Luck had some good moments and some bad ones, and he finished 27 of 50 for 334 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. But two of those mistakes -- a pick six by Aqib Talib and another one returned by Alfonzo Dennard -- helped kill his team’s chances for the upset win. Luck might possess Brady’s skill, but he’s obviously nowhere near him as a quarterback right now. Grade: C
Nick Foles, Eagles QB: As I pointed out in this week’s “For the gambler in you,” I was worried Foles would be a disaster in his first career start. Unfortunately for Philadelphia, that theory proved true. He threw two interceptions early in the game that allowed the Redskins to build up a big lead, and he finished 21 of 46 for 204 yards and those two picks. It’s not surprising Foles struggled in his first real NFL action, but those who believe he's a better option than Michael Vick might need to rethink that opinion. Grade: D
Here are other notable -- or not so notable -- performances by rookies around the league.
Justin Blackmon, Jaguars WR: Nobody else drafted in last year’s top 10 has been more disappointing than Blackmon (he basically had done nothing to make Jacksonvile’s awful receiving corps better). But with backup Chad Henne throwing him passes, Blackmon exploded for 236 yards and a touchdown on seven catches. The Jaguars lost to Houston in overtime, but still, what a performance by Blackmon.
Janoris Jenkins, Rams CB: After he was made inactive last week for disciplinary reasons, Jenkins blocked a field goal attempt by the Jets in the second quarter. He also made four tackles in St. Louis’ loss.
Riley Reiff, Lions OT: With Jeff Backus having to leave the game with an injury, Reiff, the No. 23 overall pick, had to fill in for him at left tackle and keep Matthew Stafford upright. Reiff had multiple holding penalties called against him, and overall, Stafford was sacked five times in the team’s loss to Green bay.
Dezman Moses, Packers LB: You might not know much about Moses, because he was an undrafted rookie free agent, but he made a fantastic play on Stafford, stripping the ball from him as he attempted to scramble away. Green Bay recovered that fumble.
Alfonzo Dennard, Patriots CB: The seventh-round draft pick had the biggest play of his career when he stepped in front of an out route, picked off Andrew Luck and raced 87 yards down the sideline to outsprint Luck and score the touchdown. The score put New England up by four touchdowns and effectively ended the Colts' day.
