Player Outlook
There's potential for Franklin to make an impact with the Broncos as soon as his rookie season. Franklin led Oregon in receiving yards and touchdowns each of the past two years, catching throws from Bo Nix, who the Broncos also drafted. A tall but slender receiver, Franklin has outstanding speed and is ascending in terms of his route running. If he can dig into the Denver offense this preseason then there's a chance he could not only see regular playing time but potentially lead the receiving group in targets. Franklin is worth a Round 10 pick in redraft leagues on the hope he can put up good numbers each week. He'll also fit into rookie-only drafts at 20th overall in one-QB formats and 35th overall in Superflex or two-QB.

  • Broncos' Troy Franklin: Showing development as a rookie

Franklin has made solid progress ahead of the 2024 season, and head coach Sean Payton is pleased with where he is at in his development, Nick Kosmider of the Athletic reports. Franklin had an underwhelming training camp and preseason after the Broncos traded up in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft to select him. The rookie wideout failed to record a single catch in his first two preseason games, but he did show flashes as a deep threat at certain points in camp. Despite Franklin's inconsistent start, Payton stated that "he has rare speed and he's very comfortable catching an in-route and then, all of a sudden, he's taking it for a big gain." Both his big-play potential and his connection with Bo Nix, his college quarterback, could afford the 21-year-old the opportunity to see some playing time as a rookie, especially if there are injuries within Denver's wide receiver corps during the season. With that said, Franklin will likely have an uphill battle for consistent usage behind Courtland Sutton, Josh Reynolds and Marvin Mims when all three are healthy.

  • Broncos' Troy Franklin: Two touches in win

Franklin caught his lone target for 21 yards and carried once for nine yards in Sunday's 38-12 preseason win over the Cardinals. Franklin finally found his way onto the stat sheet in Sunday's preseason finale, handling his first two touches while playing 50 percent of the Broncos' offensive snaps in the contest. The rookie wideout is a work in progress, but in Denver, he finds himself in a solid situation that could be conducive to his development. Bo Nix, his college quarterback, was named the starter ahead of Week 1, so the history the two have with one another could bode well for the 6-foot-3, 180-pound receiver. In addition, it appears the Broncos will cut ties with veteran wideout Tim Patrick ahead of the 2024 campaign, according to Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post. With final roster cuts upcoming, Franklin is positioned to make the 53-man roster in a depth role behind Courtland Sutton, Josh Reynolds and Marvin Mims.
