Player Outlook
The flash of explosiveness Bateman gave us last year before breaking his foot is enough to consider him a high-priority bench receiver with big upside. Bateman torched defenses with his speed both on deep throws and on catch-and-runs, averaging 19.0 yards per catch on the year and 28.3 yards per catch through his first three games. The worry is that he'll be unreliable for Fantasy goodness from week to week and won't get ample target volume to ever establish himself as a must-start wideout. Maybe that changes if injuries befall some of his teammates, but until then Bateman is best considered as a low-end boom/bust Flex. He's worth prioritizing in deeper leagues or in Best Ball formats, but in typical redrafts, he's worth a pick starting in Round 10.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Minimal involvement in passing game

Bateman caught all three of his targets for 18 yards in Sunday's 27-24 win over the Bengals. Bateman's role increased in terms of playing time Sunday as his snap count increased from 22 to 42, but that did not lead to an uptick in targets. He caught all three of his targets in the opener for 35 yards and his per-target efficiency this week dropped from 11.7 YPT to 6.0. Odell Beckham aggravated an ankle issue against the Bengals, and it was Nelson Agholor who stepped up with five catches for 63 yards and a touchdown. Bateman remains third on the team in snaps among receivers (64) but he is not consistently drawing targets just yet. The former first-rounder was impressive in 2022 (10.2 YPT, two touchdowns on 28 targets) before an injury cut his season short, so it's still too early to jump ship on Bateman being an impact player this year. He'll have an opportunity to break out in Week 3 when Baltimore hosts Indianapolis.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Three catches in season-opening win

Bateman brought in all three targets for 35 yards in the Ravens' 25-9 win over the Texans on Sunday. Bateman's first foray into regular-season action since Week 8 of last season, when a Lisfranc injury cut his 2022 campaign short. The third-year wideout saw rookie Zay Flowers dominate targets in what was a low-volume day overall for the air attack, but Bateman should have a good chance for more work in what projects for a more competitive matchup on the road against the Bengals in Week 2.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Healthy heading into Week 1

Bateman avoided the Ravens' Week 1 injury report and reiterated Wednesday that he's fully recovered from last year's Lisfranc foot surgery and ready to go for Sunday's season opener versus the Texans, Clifton Brown of the Ravens' official site reports. Bateman has been snakebitten on the injury front through his first two NFL seasons, missing the first five games of his rookie campaign while recovering from groin surgery and then playing just six games in 2022 before sustaining the foot injury. The 23-year-old has at least looked like a foundational piece for the Baltimore passing attack when healthy, compiling a 61-800-3 receiving line on 96 targets through his first 18 career games. He'll face more competition for targets at receiver in 2023 with the Ravens adding veterans Odell Beckham and Nelson Agholor and first-round draft pick Zay Flowers to the position group, but Bateman still boasts the sort of speed and athleticism to emerge as the No. 1 option among the quartet.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Week 1 Adds (WR Preview)

Bateman played three healthy games with Jackson last year and scored more than 40 Fantasy points in those three games. Lamar Jackson said earlier this offseason that Bateman is his WR1. Todd Monken's offense should be more receiver friendly and the Texans defense should not provide much resistance.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Week 1 Waiver Priority List

I'm hopeful rookie Zay Flowers will be the No. 1 receiver in Baltimore this year, but Bateman could still be the go-to receiver for Lamar Jackson. Remember, Bateman has the best rapport with Jackson, and last year before suffering a foot injury, Bateman had two games with at least 13 PPR points in his five healthy outings. He's a potential third-year breakout candidate in 2023, and hopefully Bateman will stay healthy all season. He's worth adding for up to 5 percent of your remaining FAB where available.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Back in action

Bateman (foot) returned to practice Friday, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports. Bateman had missed practice the previous two days, but coach John Harbaugh noted Wednesday that the wideout hadn't experienced any setbacks with his surgically-repaired foot. "There's a process to getting guys back," Harbaugh noted of Bateman. "He's on schedule." As the coming season approaches, the 2021 first-rounder is in line to be a key cog in a revamped Ravens WR corps that also includes veteran newcomers Odell Beckham and Nelson Agholor, as well a promising rookie Zay Flowers. Assuming he can stay healthy, Bateman looks poised for a resurgent campaign in 2023 after being limited to six games and a 15-285-2 receiving line last season.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Comes off PUP list

The Ravens reinstated Bateman (foot) from the active/PUP list Wednesday, Ryan Mink of the team's official site reports. Bateman began training camp on the PUP list after receiving a cortisone shot in his foot earlier this offseason, though he participated in minicamp on a limited basis. Head coach John Harbaugh said on the first day of training camp that Bateman was doing well as he works his way back from Lisfranc surgery, but soreness kept the 2021 first-round pick off the field until Wednesday. If the Ravens remain cautious and want to ramp up Bateman's practice load, he could still be held out of Saturday's preseason opener against the Eagles. Nonetheless, it's encouraging for fantasy managers to at least see the wideout back on the field for crucial first-team reps.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Spotted running on side field

Bateman (foot) remains on the active/PUP list, but he was spotted running on an adjacent field during practice Monday, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports. This is the first time Bateman has been spotted working during practice since undergoing a cortisone shot earlier this offseason, so it certainly can be considered a positive development. However, it remains unclear when the wideout will be able to participate in practice again. On Friday, head coach John Harbaugh said Bateman "has a chance to be out there pretty soon," but that quote doesn't offer a specific return timeline, either. For now, it appears fantasy managers will just have to play the wait-and-see game.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Not practicing after cortisone shot

Bateman (foot) will be held out of June minicamp after getting a cortisone shot, but coach John Harbaugh still expects the wideout to be ready for training camp. Bateman resumed running in April and managed some level of participation during OTAs in May, with Harbaugh using the phrases "right on schedule" and "chomping at the bit" to describe the wideout's progress. Bateman is about seven months removed from surgery on a Lisfranc injury, and it's unclear if the cortisone shot indicates a minor setback or is simply part of the rehab plan to get him back on the field by Week 1.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Participating in OTAs

Bateman (foot) took the field Monday for Baltimore's first OTA, Clifton Brown of the team's official site reports. Coming back from Lisfranc surgery in November, the 23-year-old wideout resumed running in April and was working out with new teammate Odell Beckham in mid-May. While he may have limitations this spring given the serious nature of last year's injury, Bateman seems to be on track for Week 1 in a new-look Ravens offense with OC Todd Monken calling the shots and Beckham and rookie first-round pick Zay Flowers competing for WR snaps and targets.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Resumes running

Bateman (foot) recently resumed running, Jonas Shaffer of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports. Ravens coach John Harbaugh said March 27 that Bateman was doing well and would be ready to resume running in three weeks. The wide receiver confirmed he met that prediction in an Instagram post Wednesday, which seemingly keeps him on track to meet Harbaugh's expectation of being "healthier than ever" by the time the season starts. Bateman does figure to be absent or limited throughout the offseason program as the team slowly brings him back from last year's season-ending Lisfranc surgery in November. The 2021 first-rounder enters his third season with bit more competition for targets after the Ravens signed Odell Beckham Jr., though there may also be more passes to go around with Todd Monken replacing Greg Roman as offensive coordinator. The biggest question, of course, is whether Bateman and Beckham end up catching passes from Lamar Jackson or another quarterback, as Jackson still hasn't signed his franchise tag and requested a trade back in March.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Continues to progress

While speaking with reporters at the NFL's Annual League Meeting, coach John Harbaugh relayed Monday that Bateman (foot) is "healthy and going to be running in three weeks." The wideout, who last saw game action Week 8 of the 2022 regular season, continues to move past surgery to address a Lisfranc foot injury, with Harbaugh expressing confidence that Bateman will be "ready to roll" and "healthier than ever" as the coming season approaches. Once the 2021 first-rounder retakes the field, he'll reclaim his starting role in a Baltimore wideout corps that also includes Devin Duvernay (foot) and free-agent newcomer Nelson Agholor. At this stage, however, it remains to be seen how the team's QB situation plays out, with Lamar Jackson, who the Ravens have placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on, having indicated Monday that he requested a trade earlier this month.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Making progress with foot injury

Coach John Harbaugh indicated Thursday that Bateman (foot) should be able to run at full speed "really soon," Jonas Shaffer of The Baltimore Sun reports. Bateman, who is bouncing back from surgery to address a Lisfranc foot injury, last saw game action Week 8 of the 2022 regular season, but it sounds like the 2021 first-rounder will be ready to go once the Ravens next take the field. Prior to being placed on IR, Bateman caught 15 of his 28 targets for 285 yards and two TDs in six games. Provided he avoids any setbacks ahead of the 2023 campaign, the 6-foot-1, 197-pounder should reclaim his starting slot in what figures to be a retooled Baltimore wideout corps.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Officially on IR

The Ravens have placed Bateman (foot) on injured reserve, Clifton Brown of the team's official site reports. With Bateman out for the season with a Lisfranc foot injury that will be surgically repaired, the Ravens will proceed with a wideout corps now led by Devin Duvernay that also includes Demarcus Robinson (groin), James Proche, Tylan Wallace, DeSean Jackson and Binjimen Victor.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Done for the season

Head coach John Harbaugh said Thursday that Bateman will undergo season-ending surgery to address a Lisfranc injury to his left foot, Ryan Mink of the Ravens' official site reports. With Bateman done for the season, Devin Duvernay now profiles as the Ravens' top wideout, with Demarcus Robinson, James Proche and Tylan Wallace in the mix for added snaps in the coming weeks. Bateman finishes his sophomore campaign with15 receptions for 285 yards and two touchdowns on 28 targets across six appearances.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Slated to miss time

Bateman is in line to miss time with a foot injury, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports. The foot injury that Bateman suffered this past Thursday against the Buccaneers ended up being more serious than initially thought, with coach John Harbaugh noting Monday that "It looks like it's going to be a few weeks" for the wideout. In Bateman's looming absence, added snaps will be available for Demarcus Robinson and James Proche alongside Devin Duvernay.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Out after playing minimally

Bateman was ruled out of Thursday's game against the Buccaneers with a foot injury. Bateman was questionable heading into Thursday's game after practicing fully Wednesday. However, he was on the field minimally throughout the first half and was targeted only once prior to being ruled out midway through the third quarter. The Ravens are also without Mark Andrews (shoulder), which has left Demarcus Robinson, Isaiah Likely, Devin Duvernay and James Proche as the team's primary pass catchers.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Listed as active Thursday

Bateman (foot) is listed as active for Thursday night's game against the Buccaneers. Bateman, who was a non-participant in Tuesday's practice before being listed as a full participant Wednesday, approached the contest listed as questionable, but he'll be available Thursday and is in line to see his share of Week 8 targets from QB Lamar Jackson alongside fellow WR Devin Duvernay. In his return to action from a two-game absence in this past Sunday's 23-20 win over the Browns, Bateman started and was on the field for 36 of a possible 64 snaps en route to catching four of his team-high five targets for 42 yards.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Expected to play Thursday

Bateman (foot) is expected to play Thursday night against the Buccaneers, barring any pregame setbacks, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The same goes for TE Mark Andrews (knee) and RB Gus Edwards (knee), with the trio having been listed as questionable for the contest by the Ravens. Confirmation of the three player's Week 8 statuses is slated to arrive when inactives are posted ahead of Thursday's 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: DNP due to foot injury

Bateman didn't practice Tuesday due to a foot injury. Bateman was sidelined Weeks 5 and 6 as a result of a foot issue, so the Ravens may have simply given him a maintenance day in the wake of hauling in four of five targets for 42 yards in his return to action this past Sunday against the Browns. Wednesday's practice report will clarify his status heading into Thursday's road matchup with the Buccaneers.
