The Bengals needed to add some depth to their linebacking corps with Kevin Minter (elbow) ruled out for Sunday's game against the Broncos. Nickerson has played in seven games with the Bengals so far this season, but is used far more often on special teams than he is on defense.
Nickerson was waived by the Bengals on Tuesday.
Nickerson was waived in order to make room for running back Brian Hill on the active roster. A former member of the Bengals' practice squad, Nickerson could rejoin the group if he passes through waivers. In seven games with the Bengals the reserve linebacker recorded two tackles, playing primarily on special teams.
Nickerson (ankle) was not present on Monday's injury report, Jay Morrison of the Dayton Daily News reports.
Nickerson was designated probable to return after suffering the injury in the second quarter of Sunday's loss to the Ravens, but did not see another snap. It was the only snap the undrafted rookie saw in the game.
Nickerson suffered an ankle injury Sunday against the Ravens and is probable to return.
The undrafted rookie is the backup for fifth-year middle linebacker, Kevin Minter, but has been tasked mostly for special teams duties. If Nickerson's condition worsens and he's unable to return, expect Carl Lawson or Jordan Evans move to middle linebacker when Minter needs a breather.
