Nickerson will start at middle linebacker against the Ravens on Thursday, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Nickerson will start in place of Preston Brown (ankle) during Thursday Night Football. The 24-year-old logged four tackles after replacing an injured Brown midway through the team's season-opening victory over the Colts. Nickerson draws the start over Vincent Rey, who is still recovering from an ankle injury sustained in the preseason.
Brown could be a game-time decision Thursday night against the Ravens. Nickerson got the nod over Vincent Rey as the latter was working his way back from an ankle injury.
The Bengals needed to add some depth to their linebacking corps with Kevin Minter (elbow) ruled out for Sunday's game against the Broncos. Nickerson has played in seven games with the Bengals so far this season, but is used far more often on special teams than he is on defense.
Nickerson was waived by the Bengals on Tuesday.
Nickerson was waived in order to make room for running back Brian Hill on the active roster. A former member of the Bengals' practice squad, Nickerson could rejoin the group if he passes through waivers. In seven games with the Bengals the reserve linebacker recorded two tackles, playing primarily on special teams.
