Cubs' Nate Pearson: Loses roster spot

The Cubs designated Pearson for assignment Saturday.

Before he was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Aug. 11, Pearson made 11 appearances with the big-league club this season, logging a 9.20 ERA over 14.2 innings. The transaction cleared a spot on the 40-man roster for reliever Eli Morgan (elbow), who was activated from the 60-day injured list and optioned to Triple-A.
