Marlins' Stone Garrett: Cut on hand in prank gone wrong, timetable unclear
Garrett was cut on his right thumb by a knife that was part of a prank played by teammate Josh Naylor, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports. He required three stitches and faces an undetermined timetable to rejoin the lineup at High-A Greensboro, and has been placed on the 7-day disabled list.
An eighth-round pick by the Marlin in 2014, Garrett had a nice season with short-season Batvia in 2015 but started off slow in 2016 due to another injury. He's now collected five home runs over 131 at-bats while slashing .244/.303/.450 but will have to pause his campaign momentarily as he recovers from a cut thumb. While he's still early in his career, MLB.com ranks the 20-year-old the fourth-best prospect in the Marlins' farm system, and assuming nothing major comes of the injury, the latest setback shouldn't have a big impact on the trajectory of his career.
