Scherzer (1-0) picked up the win Friday against the Nationals, allowing three runs on three hits and a walk over six innings in a 7-3 victory. He struck out six.
A Josh Bell homer in the fourth inning accounted for most of the offense his former club got off Scherzer, but he was otherwise sharp in his Mets debut and didn't seem bothered by the hamstring tweak that cost him the Opening Day assignment. The veteran right-hander got lifted after 80 pitches (53 strikes), but he could work a little deeper Wednesday in Philadelphia.
