Peterson was designated for assignment Thursday.

The Mets will risk sacrificing some organizational bullpen depth in Peterson in order to claim Aaron Altherr off waivers in an effort to address their lack of healthy outfield depth. Peterson has a 5.56 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 34 MLB innings over the past two seasons.
