  • Bryan Hudson RP | CHW

White Sox's Bryan Hudson: Opening Wednesday's contest

Hudson will serve as the White Sox's opening pitcher during Wednesday's game against the Royals, James Fegan of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Hudson has been one of the White Sox's most reliable bullpen arms this season, turning in a 3.03 ERA and 1.21 WHIP through 65.1 innings, but he'll now be called upon to lock down the first inning of Wednesday's contest. Erick Fedde is expected to pitch in bulk relief once Hudson leaves the game.

  • Cubs' Daniel Palencia: Continues improved play Tuesday

Palencia tossed 1.1 scoreless innings of relief with a strikeout in Tuesday's 8-2, extra-innings loss to the Marlins.

Palencia hasn't retaken his job as Chicago's primary closer, but he has started to pitch better lately after a slow start in his return from the injured list earlier this month. Across his last seven appearances, the hard-throwing righty hasn't allowed an earned run while striking out six batters across 7.2 innings. Palencia hasn't been able to match his 2025 breakout campaign, when he posted a 2.91 ERA with 22 saves and 61 strikeouts across 52.2 regular-season innings, though his improved performance does give him a little momentum heading into a possible Chicago playoff run.

  • Kevin Kelly RP | TB

Rays' Kevin Kelly: Tallies MLB-high 32nd hold

Kelly recorded the final out of the seventh inning in Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Yankees, picking up a hold while allowing one hit and no walks.

Kelly moved into a tie with Toronto's Tyler Rogers for the MLB lead in holds (32). The right-hander has coughed up six earned runs in nine innings this month, but he does have a pristine 12:0 K:BB during that time. He'll be a key component of the Tampa Bay bullpen this postseason, sporting a 2.48 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 62:11 K:BB across 72.2 innings.

  • Royals' Daniel Lynch: Yields three homers to White Sox

Lynch (6-6) took the loss after allowing nine runs on seven hits and three walks across four innings against the White Sox on Tuesday. He struck out two.

Lynch was unable to contain the White Sox and recorded his worst outing of the season. The southpaw allowed three homers, including three-run long balls to Chase Meidroth and Randal Grichuk. Over 55 appearances (nine starts) this season, Lynch has posted a 4.13 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 54:26 K:BB over 80.2 innings. The 29-year-old is scheduled to make his next start in Game 162 against Cleveland on Sunday.

  • Nationals' Richard Lovelady: Starting bullpen game

Lovelady will draw the start Wednesday for the Nationals in a bullpen game against the Tigers, Mark Zuckerman of NatsJournal.com reports.

Lovelady will make his sixth start of the season while the Nationals lean on their bullpen to get through Wednesday's series finale. The 31-year-old southpaw has given up three runs (one earned) in 2.1 innings since returning from the injured list and will likely remain in the game for only an inning or two.

  • Gregory Soto RP | PIT

Pirates' Gregory Soto: Notches 16th save

Soto struck out two in a clean ninth inning to earn the save Tuesday against the Cardinals.

After allowing a leadoff walk, Soto retired the Cardinals in order en route to his 16th save of the season. The 31-year-old punched out JJ Wetherholt and Ivan Herrera. Soto has now recorded three consecutive scoreless outings after back-to-back rocky appearances against divisional opponents. This year, the southpaw owns a 6-5 record, 3.72 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 78:29 K:BB over 65.1 innings.

  • Drew Anderson RP | DET

Tigers' Drew Anderson: Pitches well again but takes loss

Anderson (5-7) allowed three runs on five hits across six innings to take the loss Tuesday against the Nationals. He struck out five.

Anderson mostly pitched well but served up two home runs to CJ Abrams, including a two-run shot in the seventh inning, to account for all of the damage in an eventual 3-1 loss. The righty tossed five scoreless frames in his last outing and has a tidy 2.76 ERA across 45.2 innings since the beginning of August. Overall, Anderson now has a 3.67 ERA and 114 strikeouts in a career-high 108 innings this season split between the bullpen and rotation. He's not currently in line to make any more 2026 starts, though it's unclear exactly how the Tigers will deploy their pitchers over the final four games of the year with the team eliminated from the playoff race. Either way, Anderson has shown some promise as a starter down the stretch, which figures to put him in the mix for a 2027 Opening Day rotation spot.

  • Cal Quantrill RP | TEX

Rangers' Cal Quantrill: Transferred to 60-day IL

The Rangers placed Quantrill (lat) on the 60-day injured list Tuesday.

Quantrill will not pitch again this season after being transferred to the 60-day IL on Tuesday. The right-hander posted a 2.86 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 81:25 K:BB across 110 innings this season. Texas activated Michael Helman (hand) from the 60-day IL, replacing Quantrill on both the active and 40-man rosters.

  • Giants' Braxton Roxby: Returning to majors

The Giants recalled Roxby from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday.

Roxby appeared in four games in Triple-A after he was optioned back there Sept. 7. He allowed one earned on a home run with seven strikeouts across 7.1 innings. The righty returns to the majors as a corresponding move to Blade Tidwell landing on the 15-day injured list due to a UCL sprain.

  • Brock Stewart RP | LAD

    Dodgers' Brock Stewart: Opening Tuesday

Stewart will serve as the opening pitcher during Tuesday's game against the Padres, Kirsten Watson of Spectrum SportsNet LA reports.

Stewart will be making his first start in the big leagues since 2018 as the Dodgers lean on their bullpen to make it through Tuesday's series opener. The 34-year-old has been less effective than usual in September, allowing four runs (three earned) while striking out five batters and walking one over 5.2 innings.
