Dodgers' Kyle Hurt: Sent down to minors

The Dodgers optioned Hurt to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Saturday, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Hurt has posted a 2.92 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 18:7 K:BB over 11 appearances spanning 12.1 innings since the All-Star break, but Los Angeles has opted to send him down to clear a spot on the active roster for Bobby Miller (shoulder), who was activated from the 60-day IL. Given Hurt's recent contributions, there's a good chance he'll be back up with the Dodgers before the end of the regular season.

The Rays placed Rodriguez on the 15-day injured list Friday, retroactive to Sept. 3, with a lower-back strain.

Rodriguez has given up two earned runs and struck out eight batters in 4.2 innings since making his season debut Aug. 24, but he'll now head back to the injured list after tweaking his back. Cole Sulser (back) was reinstated from the 15-day IL in a corresponding move to take Rodriguez's place in the Rays' bullpen.

Rays' Cole Sulser: Returns from IL

The Rays reinstated Sulser (back) from the injured list Friday.

Out since late July with lower-back spasms, Sulser began a rehab assignment at Triple-A Durham on Aug. 19 and has since given up two earned runs on nine hits and four walks while striking out seven batters over seven innings. Now fully healthy, he'll reclaim a middle-relief role in Tampa Bay's bullpen and replace Manuel Rodriguez (back) on the active roster.

The Athletics recalled Johnson from Triple-A Las Vegas on Saturday.

Johnson carries a hefty 7.29 ERA and 2.00 WHIP through 21 innings in the majors this season, but he'll rejoin the Athletics' bullpen after giving up just one run in 5.1 Triple-A innings since being sent down to Vegas on Aug. 19. Kade Morris was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

  • Rays' Garrett Cleavinger: Lands on 15-day IL with forearm tightness

The Rays placed Cleavinger on the 15-day injured list Saturday due to left forearm tightness, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The 32-year-old southpaw may have picked up the injury during Friday's outing against the Rangers, when he allowed two runs on two hits (including a home run) and a walk while failing to record an out. He's eligible to return from the IL on Sept. 20, and he expressed confidence Saturday that he would pitch again this season, per Ryan Bass of Rays.tv. Right-hander Ty Johnson had his contract selected from Triple-A Durham in a corresponding move.

  • Blue Jays' Ricky Tiedemann: Back with Toronto

The Blue Jays recalled Tiedemann from Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday.

Tiedemann was optioned to Triple-A on Friday, but he's back with the big club after Jameson Taillon (elbow) was placed on the 15-day injured list. Tiedemann made his major-league debut Aug. 15 against the Yankees and made a second appearance with the Blue Jays on Tuesday against the Guardians, when he walked two batters in one scoreless inning.

Angels' Shaun Anderson: Back with Halos on MiLB deal

The Angels signed Anderson to a minor-league contract Friday and assigned him to Triple-A Salt Lake.

Anderson was DFA'd by the Angels on Aug. 30 and elected to enter free agency Wednesday, but the veteran right-hander will remain with the Halos in the team's minor-league system. Anderson has appeared in 17 games (six starts) for Salt Lake this season, posting a 4.95 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 47:21 K:BB over 43.2 innings.

  • Javier Assad RP | CHC

Cubs' Javier Assad: Recalled for start

The Cubs recalled Assad from Triple-A Iowa ahead of his start Saturday against Miami, Vinnie Duber of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Assad has put up a 3.46 ERA and 1.10 WHIP across 83.1 innings in the big leagues this season and has given up four runs in nine innings since being sent down to Triple-A in late August. He'll now return to the majors to pitch against a Marlins offense that's put up a .677 OPS in the last two weeks, and he could stick around in the Cubs' rotation if he delivers another strong performance. Tyler Ferguson was optioned to Iowa in a corresponding move.

  • Tyler Ferguson RP | CHC

Cubs' Tyler Ferguson: Sent back to Triple-A

The Cubs optioned Ferguson to Triple-A Iowa on Saturday, Vinnie Duber of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
