Appleton (upper body) was moved to injured reserve Tuesday, Scott Billeck of the Winnipeg Sun reports.

The move is retroactive to Oct. 5, so Appleton can be activated before Winnipeg's season opener on Friday against the Rangers. However, it is believed that his spot could be filled by Axel Jonsson-Fjallby, who is slated to have his work visa situation resolved by Thursday.
