Cardinals manager Mike Matheny suggested on Friday that Allen Craig could see Game 4 or 5 action in the outfield or first base, but probably wouldn't be ready for Game 3. GM John Mozeliak contended it was "unlikely" that Craig would play in Game 3.
Craig took grounders at first base Friday and Matheny liked what he saw, but he didn't want to rush Craig into game action and jeopardize any progress according to CBSSports.com Senior Columnist Scott Miller.
Craig, dealing with a left foot sprain, hasn't played the field since Sept. 4. He hit .315 with 13 home runs in 508 at-bats this season.
