The Yankees hauled in a big free agent catch Saturday, agreeing to terms on a five-year contract with free agent catcher Brian McCann, according to numerous reports, first reported by the Dallas Morning News.
The deal, which is pending a physical, will reportedly be worth $85 million in base salary, with a sixth-year option that could bring the total to $100 million. The average annual salary for the deal is $17 million, representing the highest for any free-agent catcher in history.
The Rangers and Rockies were also reportedly in on the seven-time All Star until negotiations ended. McCann had a bounceback year for the Braves in 2013, posting a .256/.336/.461 line with 20 home runs and 57 RBI in 356 at-bats.
