Eric Sogard stays hot while fighting for starting role

Athletics infielder Eric Sogard continued to hit in his bid to win a starting role, reaching base in all four plate appearances against the Giants Saturday, including hitting his first home run of the spring. He's hitting .538 in 45 Cactus League plate appearances and has only struck out twice. The outstanding line could land him the starting job at second base.

"He's certainly right in the middle of the mix," manager Bob Melvin told MLB.com. "He was always in there and probably came out of the pack a little bit, but he's a guy that's played for us before, comes to camp trying to win a job, and he's doing everything he can to do that.
