Red Sox starting pitcher John Lackey was called upon to pitch the eighth inning in Game 4 of the World Series Sunday and delivered a scoreless inning of work in his team's 4-2 win over the Cardinals.
Lackey watched Yadier Molina reach second base on an errant throw by Xander Bogaerts, who was charged with an error, but the pitcher stranded the runner in scoring position by getting the next two batters out. It was Lackey's first relief appearance since 2004 and first postseason relief appearances since 2002.
