Reds pitcher Mat Latos threw 20 pitches of live batting practice Friday and was pleased with the results, MLB.com reports.
"Everything was good. I was a little anxious, a little nervous. My mechanics are definitely rusty," Latos said. "I can't complain for the first time out facing live hitters. I was a little amped up. All in all, I'm satisfied. There are a couple of tweaks and adjustments I need to make."
Latos should see game action next week and could still open the season in the rotation as the team's fifth starter, provided he doesn't suffer a setback with his return from October elbow surgery.
