Mets starter Noah Syndergaard wasn’t sharp Wednesday, but he managed to wiggle out of several tough situations against the Nationals and looked in line for a win until his bullpen failed him.

Syndergaard went five innings, giving up five hits and just one run while striking out five. However, Syndergaard walked five batters, putting himself in difficult innings and raising his pitch count, forcing him to exit after throwing 98 pitches.

Syndergaard did lower his ERA to 2.97 with the outing.
