Astros' David Martinez: Signs with Houston
Martinez signed a minor-league contract with Houston and was assigned to Triple-A Fresno on Wednesday, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Martinez spent spring training with Detroit and became available when released over the past weekend. The right-hander returns to the organization that originally signed him as an international free agent out of Venezuela back in 2005. In two minor-league stops last season, for the Twins and Tigers, the 29-year-old Martinez had a combined 5.96 ERA in 92.2 innings. He should serve as nothing more than starting depth with the Astros this season.

Tigers' David Martinez: Re-signs in Detroit
Martinez re-signed with the Tigers, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
Martinez wasn't particularly effective last season, posting an ERA of 5.62 in 41.2 innings over 12 games with Double-A Erie in the Tigers system and a 6.23 ERA in 52 games over 12 games with Triple-A Rochester in the Twins system. He's likely to serve as organizational depth in 2017, but could find himself out of a job if he pitches poorly once again.
