Leahy was optioned to Triple-A Memphis on Saturday.
Leahy made his big-league debut in early July but allowed at least one run in all three of his relief appearances, failing to record three outs in any of them. He'll take his 21.60 ERA and 5.40 WHIP back to the minors, with Drew VerHagen (hip) returning from the injured list to take his spot in the bullpen.

Leahy (0-1) allowed two runs on two hits and two walks while striking out two over two-thirds of an inning to take the loss Friday versus the White Sox.
Leahy gave up a solo home run to Luis Robert and then loaded the bases. Chris Stratton allowed an inherited runner to score, breaking the tie and leaving Leahy with the loss in his MLB debut. Leahy had a mediocre 4.06 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 51:23 K:BB over 51 innings with Triple-A Memphis as a long reliever, and it's possible his stay on the big-league roster could be short.

St. Louis selected Leahy's contract from Triple-A Memphis on Thursday.
Leahy is up to fill a long-relief role for the Cardinals, who badly need fresh arms in the bullpen. The 26-year-old right-hander was showing an underwhelming 4.06 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 51:23 K:BB through 51 innings of work this season with Memphis.
