  • Mitch Harris: Released by St. Louis

Harris posted Tuesday on his personal Instagram account that he was released by the Cardinals.

Harris, who underwent Tommy John surgery last June, opened the season with Triple-A Memphis. He made just two appearances in the Pacific Coast League before hitting the 7-day disabled list in April, and the Cardinals concluded soon thereafter that the 31-year-old didn't have a future in the organization. It's possible that Harris' elbow still isn't back to full strength following the surgery, so it wouldn't be surprising if he sat out the rest of the season and attempted to land a minor-league deal with another organization this winter.

  • Cardinals' Mitch Harris: Reassigned to minor league camp

Harris was reassigned to minor league camp Saturday, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.

Although he's only about nine months removed from Tommy John surgery, Harris was able to make a pair of Grapefruit League appearances this spring. It's uncertain if he will start the season on time with a full-season affiliate.

  • Cardinals' Mitch Harris: Gives up two runs in spring debut

Harris (elbow) made his first appearance of the spring Tuesday, giving up two runs on three hits in an inning of work.

The right-hander also walked a batter and struck out another. Harris underwent elbow surgery in June of last season, but it seems that he finally reached the end of his lengthy rehab process. This is a rather inauspicious start, and he'll need to improve things quickly if he wants to grab a spot on the major league roster to start the season.

  • Cardinals' Mitch Harris: Pitches live BP Monday

Harris (elbow) threw to batters for the first time this spring in a live batting practice session Monday, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.

Harris is eight months removed from an alternative procedure that essentially repaired, rather than replaced, his damaged elbow ligament. He was one of the first players to have this Tommy John alternative done, and it could salvage his 2017 season, as the procedure cuts down recovery time a good amount. After missing all of last year with the elbow injury, the 31-year-old threw live batting practice Monday and could enter a Grapefruit League game by the end of the week if all goes well. It seems he is rehabbing well from the procedure and will now look to prove himself for the coming season.

  • Cardinals' Mitch Harris: Officially added to spring training roster

Harris (elbow) has been officially added to the spring training roster, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post Dispatch reports.

Harris did not pitch last season after having the ligament in his right elbow repaired, although contrary to previous reports, he did not require a full reconstruction or Tommy John surgery. The 31-year-old finally made his major league debut in 2015, generating a 2-1 record, 3.67 ERA and 1.59 WHIP over 27 innings. He'd been rehabbing along with the major league pitchers for several weeks, and will now look to demonstrate his readiness for the coming season during spring training.

Harris is nearing the end of his rehab program and expects to be throwing unrestrained by spring training, Jennifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.

Harris missed the entirety of last season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, but looks to compete for a spot within the St. Louis bullpen. The 31-year-old threw 27 innings in relief for the Cardinals in 2015, compiling a 2-1 record and a 3.67 ERA. Harris was removed from the 40-man roster in October, but seems to be well on the road back.

  • Cardinals' Mitch Harris: Undergoes Tommy John surgery

Harris revealed on personal Instagram account that he underwent Tommy John surgery last week.

Harris hadn't pitched since spring training after he had experienced some discomfort in his elbow. After making limited progress in the past couple of months, Harris was recently reexamined by doctors, who determined that the UCL had come off the bone in his right forearm. Harris noted that he expected to be 100 percent healthy by January, but he'll likely require several months after that to regain arm strength. As such, he may not be ready to pitch at the MLB level by the middle of the 2017 season.

  • Cardinals' Mitch Harris: Transferred to 60-day DL Wednesday

Harris (arm) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Wednesday, Rob Rains of STLSportsPage.com reports.

The Cardinals needed a spot on the 40-man roster for recently-acquired Jose Martinez, and with a return date still a ways away for Harris, the right-hander will head to the 60-day DL to clear space. He's still making steady (albeit slow) progress in his throwing program, so if all goes well, he could head on a rehab assignment in a few weeks.

  • Cardinals' Mitch Harris: Cleared to resume throwing

Harris (elbow) has been cleared to resume throwing, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.

The veteran right-hander started the season on the disabled list after being diagnosed with compression syndrome in his arm in late March. After resting for over a month, Harris' arm is healthy enough for him to resume throwing. However, after the prolonged amount of rest time, Harris may need a couple of weeks of rehab work to build the strength back up in his arm.

  • Cardinals' Mitch Harris: Placed on 15-day DL

Harris (arm) was placed on the 15-day DL on Sunday, MLB.com reports.

Harris battled arm soreness for much of spring training that delayed his preparation for the season, so he'll likely begin the campaign pitching in the minors on a rehab assignment. He's expected to return to the Cardinals bullpen at some point in mid-to-late April.

  • Cardinals' Mitch Harris: Will open season on disabled list

Harris will open the season on the disabled list after being diagnosed with compression syndrome in his arm, MLB.com's Jenifer Langosch reports.

Harris has been battling soreness all spring, and it is now clear that he is dealing with a nerve issue in his arm. He will be reevaluated after resting for two weeks, and will make a push for a bullpen job with the big club once he is back at 100 percent.

  • Cardinals' Mitch Harris: Dealing with elbow injury

Harris has been ruled out for the time being due to an elbow issue, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Harris has been battling arm soreness throughout spring training, prompting the team to send him in for further testing Wednesday. The exams revealed that his arm issues are stemming from an elbow injury, but Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports that Harris is "encouraged" by the early diagnosis. Expect Harris to be sidelined at least a few more days to allow his elbow to rest. He has an outside shot of making the Opening Day roster as a middle reliever, but the longer he's out, the less likely he is to land a spot out of camp.

  • Cardinals' Mitch Harris: Cleared to pitch in games

Harris (muscle soreness) has been cleared to pitch in games, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Derrick Goold reports.

A 30-year-old righty reliever, Harris notched a 3.67 ERA in 26 games for the Cardinals last year, but his 12.3% K-rate not only makes him unappealing in fantasy, but makes it difficult to imagine him having sustained success against big league hitters. He should serve as organizational bullpen depth in 2016.

  • Cardinals' Mitch Harris: Battling Muscle Soreness

Harris has been battling general muscle soreness this spring and has yet to throw as a result, the St. Louis Post-Disptach reports.

Harris was a great story for the Cardinals in 2015 as he became the first Naval Academy graduate to pitch in the MLB at age 29. His 3.67 ERA was solid but his underlying numbers suggest he's unlikely to contribute much in 2016 after posting a 1.593 WHIP, a 5.39 FIP and striking out just 15 batters in 27 innings pitched.
