  • Padres' Nick Pivetta: Strikes out nine in win

Pivetta (7-2) allowed two runs on two hits and a walk while striking out nine over seven innings to earn the win Sunday over the Diamondbacks. Pivetta bounced back from a pair of rough starts against division rivals to begin June. He was excellent Sunday, throwing 67 of 94 pitches for strikes and limiting the damage to Eugenio Suarez's two-run home run in the fifth inning. Pivetta is up to eight quality starts in 14 outings, and he's maintained a 3.40 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 88:22 K:BB through 79.1 innings this season. The right-hander's next start is projected to be at home versus the Royals.

  • Padres' Nick Pivetta: Labors early in no-decision

Pivetta allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits and two walks while striking out three over four innings in a no-decision Monday versus the Dodgers. Pivetta allowed multiple runs in the first and third innings, which quickly ran up his pitch count. He finished at 93 pitches (56 strikes) in his shortest outing since a four-inning start at Coors Field on May 11. Pivetta has allowed 10 runs (nine earned) over his last two starts against the Giants and the Dodgers, and in five starts versus NL West rivals, he's allowed a total of 19 runs (18 earned) across 26.1 innings. Overall, he's at a 3.48 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 79:21 K:BB through 72.1 innings over 13 starts this season. Pivetta is lined up to face another divisional foe this weekend in a road start versus the Diamondbacks, who he has yet to pitch against this season.

  • Padres' Nick Pivetta: Can't hold early lead Wednesday

Pivetta allowed five runs on six hits and one walk while striking out five batters over six-plus innings in a no-decision against San Francisco on Wednesday. Pivetta cruised early, and the Padres' offense gifted him a 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth frame. He gave up a run in that inning but still looked to be on track for a win even after giving up two more runs in the sixth. However, Pivetta allowed the only two batters he faced in the seventh to reach base, and he lost a bid for both a victory and a quality start when both runners came around to score following his departure. This was the fourth straight start in which Pivetta has completed exactly six innings, but this was the first time during that span that he's given up more than two runs. He still holds a 3.16 ERA and 1.02 WHIP on the campaign, and he'll look to finish more strongly in his next start, which lines up to come at home against the division-rival Dodgers.

  • Padres' Nick Pivetta: Fans eight in sixth win

Pivetta (6-2) picked up the win Friday, allowing two runs on six hits over six innings in a 3-2 victory over the Pirates. He struck out eight without walking a batter. The right-hander blanked the Bucs through five innings before getting peppered with singles in the sixth, but Pivetta eventually put out the fire and saw the Padres re-take the lead in the bottom of the frame. He's delivered three straight quality starts and seven in 11 trips to the mound this season, and Pivetta will take a 2.74 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 71:18 K:BB through 62.1 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road next week in San Francisco.

  • Padres' Nick Pivetta: Tosses another quality start

Pivetta allowed one run on four hits and three walks while striking out seven across six innings in a no-decision against Atlanta on Friday. Pivetta immediately put the Padres in a hole after yielding a home run to the returning Ronald Acuna on the first pitch of the first inning. Pivetta was able to get out of the first despite allowing two more baserunners, and the veteran right-hander kept Atlanta off the board for the rest of his outing, finishing with nine whiffs on 102 pitches (61 strikes). It was his second straight quality start and sixth of the season, and his 2.72 ERA and 1.01 WHIP (over 56.1 innings) rank ninth and fifth, respectively, among qualified starters in the National League. Pivetta is slated to take on the Marlins at home next week.

  • Padres' Nick Pivetta: Roughed up for six runs

Pivetta (5-2) took the loss Sunday against the Rockies, allowing six runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out five in four innings. Pivetta surrendered a home run for a third consecutive start when he gave up a first-inning, three-run blast to Hunter Goodman. The struggles continued at Coors Field in the third, with Goodman supplying a two-run triple and then eventually coming in to score. Pivetta went fewer than five innings for just the second time this year. He had given up just six earned runs in his last five starts combined, including a seven-inning scoreless outing against the Rockies on April 11. Pivetta's ERA raised over a full point to 3.05, and he'll look to rebound in a home start versus the Mariners over the weekend.

  • Padres' Nick Pivetta: Struggles with command

Pivetta did not factor in the decision during Monday's win over the Yankees. He gave up three runs (two earned) on five hits and four walks over five-plus innings while striking out five. Pivetta wasn't very effective Monday, needing 91 pitches (57 strikes) to complete five frames. Most of the damage against him came on Trent Grisham's two-run shot in the third inning. It was Pivetta's first time walking more than three batters in a start this season and he now owns a 44:12 K:BB with a stellar 2.01 ERA through seven outings. After three straight quality starts, he's failed to complete six innings in back-to-back appearances. Pivetta's next start is projected to be in Colorado this weekend.

  • Padres' Nick Pivetta: Fans nine in fifth win

Pivetta (5-1) picked up the win Tuesday, giving up three runs on five hits and a walk over 5.1 innings in a 7-4 victory over the Giants. He struck out nine. The right-hander continues to shine to begin his tenure with the Padres. Pivetta has yet to allow more than three runs in a start, and his new home stadium has been a perfect fit for the typically homer-prone veteran -- Willy Adames' solo shot in the fourth inning Tuesday was the first long ball Pivetta had served up in four trips to the mound at Petco Park, and just his second of the season. Pivetta will take a 1.78 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 39:8 K:BB through 35.1 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road this weekend in Pittsburgh.

  • Padres' Nick Pivetta: Delivers scoreless outing

Pivetta (4-1) allowed two hits and two walks over seven shutout innings Tuesday, striking out six and earning a win over Detroit. Pivetta was dominant again Tuesday, letting just one runner reach scoring position. He's turned in seven scoreless frames in three of his five starts this season and dropped his ERA to 1.20 through 30 innings. He tossed 58 of 91 pitches for strikes in Tuesday's start, including 11 whiffs. Pivetta will carry a 30:7 K:BB into his next matchup, which is projected to be at home against the Giants next week.

  • Padres' Nick Pivetta: Cruises to second win

Pivetta (2-1) earned the win Friday against the Rockies after allowing three hits and one walk in seven scoreless innings. He struck out 10. Two of the three hits were doubles off the bat of Kyle Farmer, but Pivetta was still able to cruise Friday while not allowing a runner to even reach third base. The right-hander now boasts a 1.59 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 18:4 K:BB over 17 frames, although he's been particularly dominant at home with an active 14-inning scoreless streak at Petco Park. Pivetta draws a difficult test to his home success against the Cubs in his next projected start.

  • Padres' Nick Pivetta: Weak effort at Wrigley

Pivetta (1-1) took the loss Saturday, giving up three runs on six hits and three walks over three innings as the Padres were bounced 7-1 by the Cubs. He struck out four. After a dazzling 2025 debut Sunday against Atlanta, Pivetta crashed back to earth in this one, tossing 44 of 76 pitches for strikes before getting the hook. The right-hander has never been known for his consistency and has never finished a season with an ERA below 4.00, so a quick correction shouldn't have been surprising. Pivetta will take a 2.70 ERA and 8:3 K:BB through 10 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home next weekend against the Rockies.

  • Padres' Nick Pivetta: Stellar Padres debut

Pivetta (1-0) earned the win Sunday over Atlanta, allowing just one hit over seven scoreless innings. He struck out four. The Padres couldn't have asked for more out of Pivetta in his first start in San Diego, as the right-hander held a powerful Atlanta offense to a lone third-inning single en route to a shutout victory. The 32-year-old Pivetta signed with San Diego late in the offseason after posting a 4.14 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 172:36 K:BB across 145.2 innings with the Red Sox last year. Pivetta will look to keep rolling in his second start, currently scheduled for next week on the road against the Cubs.

  • Padres' Nick Pivetta: Sharp again in second spring start

Pivetta tossed three scoreless innings in a Cactus League game against San Francisco on Sunday, allowing one hit and issuing one walk while striking out three batters. Pivetta breezed through his second appearance this spring, giving up just one hit (a double by Willy Adames). The veteran righty has been impressive in his first two Cactus League starts, hurling 5.2 scoreless frames while posting a 7:2 K:BB. Pivetta is penciled in as the Padres' fourth starter after signing with the organization on four-year deal in mid-February.

  • Padres' Nick Pivetta: Impressive in spring debut

Pivetta tossed 2.2 scoreless innings in a Cactus League contest against San Francisco on Tuesday, issuing one walk and striking out four batters. Pivetta took the mound in a Padres uniform for the first time after signing with the team in mid-February. The veteran righty looked great in his 2.2 frames, holding the Giants without a hit and punching out four batters while throwing 47 pitches and topping out at 94.6 mph on the radar gun. Pivetta is a big addition to San Diego's rotation, and he's penciled in as the team's fourth starter as the regular-season approaches.

  • Nick Pivetta: Rejects qualifying offer

Pivetta rejected the Red Sox' one-year, $21.05 million qualifying offer Tuesday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports. Pivetta being extended the qualifying offer was met with some initial surprise, but it quickly became clear that he was going to have a strong free-agent market and that's evident now that he's turning down a sizable one-year deal. The right-hander has never posted an ERA below 4.00 in his career, but Pivetta boasts a 30 percent strikeout rate and 7.3 percent walk rate over the last two seasons and is still relatively young, as he will turn 32 in February. If Pivetta signs elsewhere, the Red Sox will receive a draft pick.

  • Red Sox's Nick Pivetta: Concedes three homers in loss

Pivetta (5-11) took the loss Tuesday against the Rays, allowing four runs on five hits and no walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out six. After posting three consecutive quality starts, the 31-year-old allowed three home runs in an outing for the first time since May 8 at Atlanta. Thankfully, Pivetta limited the damage by firing his first walk-free start since July 24 and giving up all solo shots. After pitching to a 3.81 ERA across 87.1 innings before the All-Star break, the Boston right-hander has faded a bit in the second half, going 1-4 with a 4.78 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 64:12 K:BB across 52.2 innings. He lines up to make his next start against the Twins at home this weekend.

  • Red Sox's Nick Pivetta: Strikes out nine in no-decision

Pivetta allowed one run on four hits and one walk while striking out nine batters over six innings in a no-decision against Baltimore on Wednesday. The only run Pivetta allowed came on an Emmanuel Rivera solo shot in the third inning. The right-handed hurler was otherwise excellent, notching his highest strikeout total since he tallied 10 punchouts against Seattle on July 29. Pivetta has been on a nice roll of late, notching three straight quality starts during which he's allowed just four runs while posting a 21:5 K:BB over 18 frames.

  • Red Sox's Nick Pivetta: Outdueled by Skubal on Saturday

Pivetta (5-10) took the loss Saturday, giving up two runs on six hits and a walk over six innings, as the Red Sox were downed 2-1 by the Tigers. He struck out six. The right-hander kept Boston in the game with his eighth quality start of the season, but Pivetta was matched up against AL Cy Young favorite Tarik Skubal and came out on the losing end. Most encouragingly, Pivetta didn't serve up a homer after being taken deep 10 times over his five prior outings, a stretch in which he'd stumbled to a 7.50 ERA. He'll look to stay on track in his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come at home next weekend against the woeful White Sox.

  • Red Sox's Nick Pivetta: Taking hill for suspended game

Pivetta is scheduled to pitch Monday, when the Red Sox resume a game with the Blue Jays that was suspended in the second inning back on June 26, Chris Cotillo MassLive.com reports. Pivetta will technically be making his first relief appearance of the season Monday; Kutter Crawford picked up the start in the June 26 contest and worked 1.1 innings before the game was suspended due to inclement weather. Once the suspended game is completed, Pivetta's official game log will attribute any statistics as having been accrued June 26. After pitching Monday, Pivetta will line up for his next start in Detroit during the upcoming weekend.

  • Red Sox's Nick Pivetta: Gives up five runs Tuesday

Pivetta allowed five runs on six hits and three walks while striking out two over five innings in a no-decision versus the Astros on Tuesday. Houston got to him early with three runs in the first inning, and Yainer Diaz tied the game at 5-5 with a solo shot in the fifth. Pivetta has allowed multiple home runs in five straight starts, though he's managed to take just two losses in that span. For the season, he's at a 4.70 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 125:27 K:BB through 105.1 innings over 20 starts. Pivetta's next start is projected to be at home versus the Blue Jays.
